Brilliant video. Brilliant concept – can’t wait to see it.
Actually, computers aren’t dumb, the people who created Apple Music, and still insist on calling a 70 minute movement of a Mahler symphony a “song” are dumb. Apple has never had any respect for classical music, I don’t expect it will get any better. Apple bought Primephonic to shut it down somApple could continue to pretend to care about classical.
Let's hear about that glorious Apple Car, eh?
I feel like I’d they did that they would also have to do the same for rock, hip/hop, pop etc….
I feel like this deep dive made my brain feel like it went through a two hour gym sesh from just watching this. I can't imagine what looking all this up and sorting through that info was like. Must've been like feeling like the Hulk.
Love her
Thank you for this, from the 15 people in the world who care about classical music. Apple closed down Primephonic and the whole project seemed to disappear.
I just into daps and 2tb mirco sd cards are a thing so cut of the streaming and will get cd's.
Buy Cd's
It’s been almost a year and a half since Apple bought and killed Primephonic, which already worked really well. They could have just rebranded the existing app, but I’ve migrated to IDAGIO and won’t be leaving when/if they actually release this new app. At least until Apple buys and kills IDAGIO, too.
Honestly I like your style and beauty and looks always so gorgeous 😍 I hope one day I will meet you 😍
Interesting. Who knew this was an issue.
Prime phonic? Amazon should buy it just for the name of the company.
It's better to speculate than never.
1 issue that needs work is Mozart composed many works, and just how those specific works are catalogued it a mess right now. Same work with many different "names" attached to it. This presents a problem when searching for the piece you want to listen to, just how and who lists the music as it is listed? Same piece, different ways to list it. 2nd issue, I have multiple recordings of the exact same piece of music by multiple different orchestras and conductors. If you ever make the mistake of allowing Apple Music to search for duplicates, and then allow it to delete the duplicate, you will find huge amounts of music deleted. And this duplicate can even be the same orchestra and the same conductor but recorded live or in a studio. Which one will Apple Music choose, live or studio. I realize that this is a very specific issue that applies to both classical music and opera. There is a music streaming service that will show you all the variations of the same song sung by the same artist when you search. I have 28 GB of classical music on my iPhone. I see these issues all the time.
i still can't get Apple Music to play Playlists I've created with opera tracks. I have to buy Apple Music and then, MAYBE, I might just get to say 'Play Placido Domingo'. When i ask Siri to play a playlist (on my Homepod Mini) it's called 'stump the band'. I get an error message saying that 'We can't find that music'. – even though I've created a playlist on my Apple Music and have it on my phone.
Thank you, I do hope Apple develops a good classical streaming app. As you point out, the current streaming services are terrible for classical music. I’m just afraid there won’t be enough money in for Apple to do a decent job.
I feel the same way about trance ambient techno music, bad algorithms.
There is an app called Idagio. It solves these problems. It has excellent content in lossless streaming and runs across platforms. And you don't need a magnifier to find it.
Canon in D is a timeless classic!
This is such an enlightment! Great job
Another Very concise & informative piece from the beautiful Bridget Carey, I think a separate specialised music app from Apple would be a really great idea
Primephonic was definitely heading in the right direction when Apple pulled it. This is quite a good high level dissection of the problems. Let’s hope it eventually arrives.
Perhaps if you gave smaller companies and indie devs more attention/publicity/advertisements, they could afford NOT to sell to larger companies.
So happy to see Bridget back on the Apple beat!!
Cannot appreciate enough how hilarious and how informative this video is! Thank you, Bridget! 🥲
She looks and sounds like a Maria Bamford character.
“Now we bring up to you “AM Classical”. It has a lot of classic songs with high quality. Making grumpy customer gonna satisfied”
It also means u must pay this app and AM “normal” instead of paying one like before
She's such a fun person in tech journalism. I love her.
I love this chick!
