A lacquer finish on that would have been awesome, it would have looked "more wooden" it looks a bit too cardboardy. But otherwise a pretty dope build. I'd love to see you guys work on a custom build with DIY Perks, his inventiveness and y'alls resources and technical expertise would definitely result in something beautiful.

Amazing.
Watching this as a woodworking, and when you hit the tolerance stack I laughed. You guys tried to treat wood like metal, which inevitably would leave some problems. The pro tip for woodworking, is you measure with your parts. That way it really doesn't matter what the actual dimensions are, just that they fit together. All kinds of tools like a marking guage are built for you to transfer part dimensions without having to measure with numbers.
Another quick pro tip, squeeze some wood glue into the cracks where the wood joins, then run a sander across the joint. The sawdust will stick to the wood glue and fill the cracks.
Also check out festool's domino joiner for an easy screw free method of attaching wood. You could easily afford it within your tool budget.

Alex, Martin don't , just don't put grafite powder close to that or any PC. Carbon is a real good electronic conducter and shorts ok, but sparks you'd want to avoid at all costs a special in a wooden PC just saying.

The proper thing to do to silence the gears is to employ a double sided timing belt on the back side with equivalent gear ratios and make it so that the gears never actually touch each other. Your backlash is huge and that is I would say the main source of your noise. With involute gears the pitch circles should meet but not overlap.
