Now I can’t stop thinking how I’m gonna convince my boss to use this in a NUC as our new NAS

  7. you could have run iostat to see if the test was doing Writes?
    What is this elementary school?

  8. Hey, it’s time to start using ESD protection Linus, and showing people to use it at home. Components are so ESD-fragile, big companies like Dell all provide ESD-safe tools for their field engineers.

  9. My problem with 8tb sabrent drives is the cost. 7.68 tb kioxia u.2 drives cost 800 dollars. And they are exceptionally fast and reliable af

  10. Why… why would anyone let Linus hold that card?!

  11. just to be clear, bios raid limitation does not matter for anyone in professional space.
Raid is basically broken for anything serious – it can detect if drive is dead and then migrate to spare one (in case of something like raid5)
but the issue is when drive is not yet dead, it's failing – in that case it might corrupt your data.
that's why for any serious data storage you want to use something like ZFS so it's able to check checksums of your data and detect that something was corrupted on drive and fix it on the fly

what would be also useful use case that such amount of iops? ZFS deduplication, that required to add another layer before accessing data -> you want to get data block X, then you need to read from deduplication map, and get read addres for data Y and then access that data. This basically halves amount of IOPS you can do (assuming no cache hits in memory) that's why it's not used that often.
In this configuration you could get a much more effective storage when expecting duplicated data

  12. “I don’t rightly know sir.” Linus with the obscure Old Greg reference

  13. The actual reason they made this video is so Alex can create another DIWHY cooling solution.

  14. I DIDN'T FIND THE TOE SUCKING IN THE VIDEO DESCRIPTION. PROMISE BROKEN

  15. I just wanted them to see if they could load GTAV in under 10 minutes.

  16. Pcie 4? Bad!

  17. My god this has awesome meme potential 8:39

  18. The way AAA game install sizes are trending, by 2026 this will be a requirement just to hold your Steam library… 😭

  19. why..

  20. An upvote from me just cause of the toe comment

  21. Wait is that a Radeon VII? Why am I more excited about that

  22. He’s considering 512gb ssd as a small one 🥲 which is the capacity I have in my laptop

  23. It's faster than a stick of 3200MT RAM. Not 2 sticks as you would use in dual channel.
As for SLC cache, the Rocket 4 8TB has around 880GB of it per drive, so yeah, if you have 4 drives it'll slow down after you've written 3.5TB, but that's an awful lot of data to need to write at ~24GB/s.
That thing still is insanely fast though.

  24. to test RAW IOP speeds, use a data wipe software at the highest level but at random write location

  25. The company making the switch is called Microchip, not Switchtech which is the name of the product. I'm sure you have heard of Microchip as they're a huge company.

They used to be market leaders in microcontrollers with their PIC products prior to ARM cortex cores.

  26. Didn't count on Alex pulling a big white board up to explain max speeds 😂

  27. Alex with a GTI and Jake with an E39 M5? Great automotive choices!

  28. Faster than DDR4 3000?

  29. As a Database Admin that thing would be my dream

  30. Me about to install half a cod update on this bad boy:

  31. Ltt : This SSD is faster than your ram
Me : My potato overheating is more consistent than your channel

  32. I recently got fiber connection. Does anybody know if i use fiber connector to connect 2 fiber cable together will it slows down the internet?

  33. I'm in love with this thing because of NAS storage stuff. Sure, this card is really expensive and might be overkill but having 21 SSDs gives you a lot in terms of fault tolerance (RAID5 or RAID6) while also consuming less space.

I'm excited to see where this is going!

  34. i expect every video to start with linus pulling the video topic out of the ltt bag for the considerable future
