Awesome Tips I HATE being lied to… but I love the ROG Ally

Thanks to dbrand for sponsoring today’s video! Head to for all your ROG Ally screen protector and skin needs.

Asus was a bit misleading with their marketing during the preview cycle, but we’ve now had time to properly test the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme and it’s still a very impressive handheld. We were already excited, but when they FINALLY confirmed the final price we almost couldn’t believe it. Time to sell your Steam Deck? Maybe…

Yes Linus but the rog is $700, verus steam deck you can buy even cheaper, second hand.

Also I have not really come across many games I cannot play on the game. And my last point super graphics on a 7" screen, while noticeable and nice to have is not a deal breaker.

I will stick with my steam deck. Decks buttons layout is better as while and I would never pay $700 for a device anf my buttons get stuck. Wtf😂

  2. You guys missed repairability, getting parts from the manufacturer and long term support.

  3. This whole talk in the comments about the battery life is so pretentious imo, I personally bought the Steam deck for potential performance and graphics. So most of the time I play for an average of 1.5 hours. The Ally seems to give even more performance and graphical power at the same battery life and for nearly the same price I paid for my Steam deck. The software for the Steam deck was something I wasn’t a big fan of at first but it grew on me. The same will go for the ROG ally, except this device is coming from a giant company that has been handling gaming laptops for a long time. Everyone is always about recency bias, the company is messing up as of right now that is true, but Valve also has a messy track record with support but the Steam Deck proved us wrong.
I’m sure Asus will try to prove everyone wrong, they haven’t always been unreliable. This is their first handheld and I’m sure they’re going to take it seriously.
Just have some faith people, it hasn’t even come out yet.

  4. The fact that it runs unrestricted Windows is a huge plus for me. It's an actual computer, not just a gaming console.

  5. these handhelds are slowly getting better than my desktop this is embarrassing

  6. valve found the perfect recipe at a great pricepoint.
    i'll stick with the steamdeck

  7. With all respect, what are you people playing today, and will play it on this? Just give me a list of games, please.

  8. So as someone without a steam deck would you recommend the rog ally over steam deck?

  9. Buttons are sticking at day one? Are all their customers supposed to DOA/RMA their product instantly? Why isn't this video about staying away until they've fixed the issue. They know about it but don't fix it, even though it's type main functionality? That's insane and the e-waste they are generating from this… Anw, the Steam Deck is still not available in Norway.

  10. So if Asus/AMD can optimize Z1 enougj to match SD at 9w-10w, we'll have a winner in Window space.

  11. at least jayz has told ASUS to go away because they are bad company led by greed

  12. Any chance you can load up Star Citizen and see how it runs?

  13. 10:18 – This probably only applies to people with ADHD. It doesn't bother me at all. It shouldn't be considered as a downside because they can't accommodate for every mental disorder (yes, ADHD is classified as a mental disorder).

  14. You know what? Valve is the ultimate winner. Steam deck or Rog Ally, the users of either of these devices will buy game from steam store. Win win for valve.

  15. You must be the only youtuber who measures minimum brightness of these handhelds. Good job

  16. Without touchpads it's a non starter as a PC handheld.

  17. finally as a gamer and programmer i can buy a mac and still play games
    my w*test dream

  18. I mean its cool and all, but can it run tears of the kingdom?

  19. Asus cannot sell this system on a loss, since they just can’t partner with stuff like gamepass, nor do they have anything else.
They have to sell this on a gain.

  20. More power is all well and good, but all it's going to do is chew through battery at an astronomical rate. And is Asus trying to make the ugliest d-pad ever or what?

  21. So you can install cracked games ?

  22. Is it possible to install Steam OS on the Ally ? because i Think The Ally Has Very good Hardware And it lacks The perfect Software to make It work At it best. If yes Please make a video About it 😀

  23. But does it play Crisis? Jk 😜
Is there on the go online? Like can you get a data plan for this thing?

  24. a handheld console is more capable than a mid/high-tier pc from 5-10 years ago

  25. Considering the Ally Z1 has double the cores and boost clock to the steam deck…. Reducing that to 10 watts will hit the thing hard, same with how the GPU is apparently the new Radeon 780M, which is better than the 680M.
On paper the specs are good, but the whole device? The little things just build up lots, since the specs are just fine (besides the 120Hz display being overkill) this would be a good device…. But the flexibility is to be desired.
Literally some other low end handheld windows consoles (like the AYN Loki mini pro or whatever) has USB4 or Thunderbolt, meaning they can do eGPU stuff, even with the RTX4090 which would be bottlenecked a bit by that 4 PCIE lanes. But Asus? You have to use some crappy proprietary connector, that will probably be useless after one generation, even if the thing they made has a 4090 mobile (it’s also over $2000)
Really stupid, that I’d rather buy one of those AYN handhelds, even if the best one with the 12 core cpu takes lots of power.
Also the Ally being smaller is nice, but I would’ve rather had them make the thing bigger for a 50 or 60 watt hour battery instead.

  26. It makes me so happy to see Dead Cells and Returnal being shown/played.

  27. Software man , asus and windows need to do better in their software

  28. You mentioned them like 3 times they better triple the pay cheque lol

  29. windows is just bad for gaming compared to linux
windows is bad for everything compared to linux

  30. COMMENTS ARE 95% STEAM DECK OWNERS, and 5% of people who pre ordered the ROG ALLY like my self 🙂

  31. gotta love what the good old competion does

  32. Shouldnt overlook that the ayaneo and Godwin are rarely out of stock, and ship quickly

  33. I like the asymmetrical controller layout of asus ally. Can you use both triggers "R1_R2" without losing grip of the device?

  34. The same ASUS booking BIOS updates and easy bake ovening with motherboards?

  35. So, Asus completely spits on AMD customers and what is the YT'er that sticks with Asus sponsorship over the consumers? Good ole LTT! Money is always Linus' top priority even choosing to promote this the same time all the Asus/AMD problems break for Asus being completely anti-consumer! This is why I don't trust Linus reviews like I do other tech Youtubers! Also; I'm looking forward to my comment getting deleted in a short time (because all the shown comments are pro-LTT and pro-Asus (which right at this moment is sketchy). Linus must have mods scrubbing the comments critical of his loyalty to Asus (and their money) when Asus is doing anti-consumer garbage to consumers right now.

  36. Hi

  37. I forgot about the hall effect Steam Deck upgrade…. Guess I know what I'm doing between breakfast and lunch on Monday.

  38. I wish alienware would release the ufo 🙁

  39. Linus the Ally looks awesome. I been waiting for someone to build a Windows based handheld. Just hope Asus fixes its reputation and builds solid products with little to no issues and anything that has an issue, they stand 100% behind. Also you could use Launch Box as a front end. It now has an option to even boot directly into the launcher from load up and may make the Ally that much more appealing against the Steam deck.

  40. This has me more interested in a steam deck
