  1. Corrections:
0:45 – The LTT Forum PSU tier list has the Thermaltake PSU that we tested ranked in F tier, not C tier, as we said in the video. We tested the Thermaltake Smart 80+, not the Thermaltake Smart BM2.

5:37 – The location of the 80 Plus Certification Levels that are shown on the Efficiency Sweep 115V graph actually corresponds to the 230V 80 Plus Certification numbers.

Additionally, since our setup isn’t finalized, the numbers in this video should be considered in a bubble and shouldn’t be interpreted to confirm or refute 80 Plus or any other specification (Labs will get there Soon™).

  2. Linus Current draw is AC, AC stands for Alternating Current.
Instead, you should have said your Current draw should be in phase with your voltage.
if not you get less efficiency for the same power consumed due to the 2 (I & V) phases being out of sync.

  3. I wanna buy the power supply which is powering the test setup

98% of the gamers will buy one of two PSUs. The one that is cheapest. Or the one made by Corsair.

  5. I studied computers in high school and never heard of Power Factor. wow! thanks!

  6. It’s good to have actual testing because everything on the shooing screen looks the same so I end up just buying name brand bigger than what I need hoping it’s good.

  7. The Thermaltake Smart 80+ is a dirt cheap, and strangely reliable psu. In situations where you are building pcs for work locations, where you don't care about power efficiency (aka someone else pays the bill) they just work. I have a few in systems that run 24×7, and have been going for years without issue. My home systems though… well they all have RMx or NZXT psu's.

  8. I think we should be careful when talking about power factor in PSUs…
This is just another metric but has 0 impact on the quality of your computer.
The outlet cable is rated for 16A, so all PSUs must consume less than that, including efficiency and power factor.

Therefore, a PSU with a 0.5 pf will not cause any type of hazard on your house/computer. It has more imaginary power but who cares? You are not paying for it.

Other low pf devices in your home: electrical blenders, fans, microwaves, led lights, old fridges…

  9. PF correction becomes even more important if you're on a commercial supply that's billed by apparent power usage, rather than real power usage (like residential properties usually are).

  10. LTT doing good by us budget builders!

  11. I really hope the Labs is able to work out. It is going to be invaluable for consumers. Hope it is able to be profitable or at least not so expensive that the rest of the company can't afford to subsidize it's existence.

  12. 4:25 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂english🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

  13. If ketchup and mustard wire comes out of the rear, that is a psu telling me to stay clear

  14. amazing work LMG!

  15. Honestly, it's still a good, not great, 50$ psu.

  16. God damn this testing is interesting.

  17. To be honest, it is really hard to find good infos regarding Power Supplies especially when building a power PC, most of them don't get in this deep explaining what how it goes around, but only just based on the graphic cards, go to brands and make you go for a quick decision on getting it without considering for the long run usage.

  18. If they tell you it sucks, believe them. Why would you ever buy a White Rated PSU??

  19. zomfg, i worked years with rhode & schwarz gear, please, for the love of god, stay away from it.

  20. Regarding the iFixit ad, tweezers are meant for picking your nose and Jimmy is good for your guitar sesh at 3.00 AM to make your neighbors pay for the crappy music they played at their parties (I live in Romania and the so-called pseudo-oriental music "manele" is ravaging the ear canals of us, educated folks).

  21. Group regulated PSUs don't belong in anything beyond absolute entry-level PCs anymore. You need more stable voltages otherwise.

  22. 12:08 Please mention the power supply ranking that isn't 80+ that includes safety and testing!

  23. I haven't bought Thermaltake since 2003 when I built my first AMD rig and it was a copper based cooler for my Barton 2500 to OC it to match a 3200+

  24. 4:25 "if we look closelyer" 😂😂😂

  25. the beer analogy doesn't makes sense because people like foam on a beer

  26. Test corsair's budget psu CV550

  27. It feels like this video was written to have more comparison graphs than it got, and titled to focus on the concept of "lots of people buy this" a lot more than it actually did

  28. Linus really hanging from GamersNexus nuts, downright embarrassing

  29. I'm happy to see someone taking power supplies seriously now that johnny guru gas been out of the game long enough for all the psu's he's reviewed to be discontinued

  30. I found that the way Linus described Power Factor could be quite misleading to somebody that doesn't understand the idea. I think it would be interesting to do a full video explaining what it is (current out of phase with the voltage), how it can be corrected (capacitors), what's the difference between W and VA is, etc.

  31. Power factor becomes crucial when computers need to be powered by a UPS. A higher power factor will lead to lower wasted power and will increase the backup time of the battery.

  32. I love EVGA, but their white tier PSUs are gerbage. Anything bronze or above is great though, through my own experience.
