Why build a new machine when you can save some money and buy used, repurposed parts slapped into a case with RGB and a tempered glass side panel from Ebay? Well, big surprise, they’re not as good as you might be led to believe.

  1. Corrections:
8:19 – The 665MHz listing is technically correct but we should have doubled it as per the Double in DDR.
9:39 – The GTX 970 shown is listed as "For parts or not working" (We sent the wrong link to our editor, oops), but there are plenty of 970s on eBay that are listed as "Used" condition that are the same price, if not cheaper.

With the price that make sense I would actually buy that

  2. A about 2 years ago I was going from playing PlayStations all my life to buying my first “gaming” pc and I’m sad to say I am a victim of this because at the time I knew nothing really about computers. I got a full size dell OptiPlex with 16 gb of ram, a Intel I7 and a gtx 1050ti. I paid about $300.
The only good thing I guess was the computer did end up teaching me a lot because I was always trying to upgrade it until I wise up and actually built my own 😂

  3. I know nothing about computer specs, I just enjoy watching videos about computers lol

  4. My i7 cost more than that entire "i7" PC

  5. can u review aisurix vga card?

  6. I nearly fell for this with my first job trying to buy a cheap gaming pc off ebay and upgrade it over time starting with something decent. Luckily my bank stopped a 15 year old me from spending £400 in one go

  7. On the scale of sponsors from @dabhdude Video I Hate Youtube Sponsorships, Youre videos are Tier Z: 2 Total Very Intrusive and Obnoxious Sponsorships, including Begging for Subs, Like, Comments, and others

  8. Don't blame the seller, blame the consumers for being stupid. Survival of the fittest.

  9. Can't wait for Linus to drop this video again in 10 years

  10. it's literally just the same addiction that people have with buying the latest model of iphone.. people are addicted to getting the latest and greatest or the one that makes them sound just as good if not better then everyone else…

  11. When your video is sponsored by 2 SEPARATE companies and not 1…… like 1st sponsor is Raid Shadow Legends and second is NordVPN……

  12. 10:00 What I do with old hardware, is whenever I fix someone's PC up for them and it's ancient, I offer them a free upgrade. I do it as a hobby, not a business, so no skin off my back and it keeps newer components in the field. Even when it comes to laptops, chances are someone near you (atleast vicinity) has an aging system that's better priced than a 2nd hand slapped together system for profit, because quite frankly, most people just want to get rid of them, because they're taking up space (like me, I have literally 10 pc cases standing in a corner, with aging parts in them, because I have no use for them and the most common part I salvage and just free-fix for people, is a psu. Because quite frankly for junker office pc's they dont really need an 80+ rated, if they just want it to turn on and run JUST a cpu and a hdd. So have a look around, chances are the people selling the parts are competent builders themselves (atleast adequate), so once you've bought the parts, can ask them if they can build it for you, for $20? Chances are good that they'd say yes.

  13. My BIGGEST issue with the way computers are sold, particularly with prebuilds, is the COMPLETE lack of EVEN the generation of the CPU. Like the listing showed. "17 Quad core". At LEAST put the generation. Like, product listings have no issues being completely undecipherable (literally any product on AliExpress/Wish/Temu) and 1000 words long, but we can't put the actual product. No, that's a step too far.

What I would like to see is marketplaces making a standard for the names (and descriptions) of products and actually enforcing it. Like, I personally don't mind if the title doesn't include the model of the CPU, but there are a LOT of people that wouldn't look past the title, and that's an issue. For computers, there should at least be the class (I3,5,7,9 or R3,5,7,9), core count, and generation in the title.
Yes, that complicates things for the layman, but if I'm talking computers with anyone I don't stop at "Yeah, I've got an I5". There's no actual info in that. At this point, the only info that can be gained from just the class name is if they're talking Athlon or Pentium. In which case, it's outdated and NEEDS to either upgraded (if current rig) or avoided like the plague (if a possible buying choice, unless they recognize the age and are actually looking for that, for what ever reason).

  14. I don’t know why people by on EBay. Have they not learnt. The real name of the app. Is Upay You pay for something and when it arrives it’s never the right thing that you ordered. Or it’s so poor a quality it breaks when you open the box. So Upay for nothing

  15. My dear departed brother bought an 'i7 gaming pc' a couple years ago. Turned out it was an i7 860. He wouldn't listen when I told him not to buy it because it didn't list the gen of the processor

  16. if you haver 500$ pls tary samting new witha real upgerdebailit lak AMD 6 CORE /12 TH WITHA VIDEO ON BORD ne tha nesx thing a veri cool gpu !! …. if not and you at tah botom of life wel you get wat you get and play wat you cen 98% of tha pc games or from tha 2000 to 2015 and most of them ar ofline so you cen play in pace ! adn not thos 5 title tha all mincereft kids ar plaing …. man ai mne tha diferne in tha generatios is more than 90% of …no coment vs wat once was !!! of more ! .. but o wel .

  17. i find the cpus and boards and ram in dumpsters lol case was 100 bucks i recognize it .

  18. Do not forget the electricity cost either. Running a old i7 vs a modern recent i3 will be a huge difference in your bills if the machine is used a lot.

  19. waiting for the next video about that 13thgen over price 3000 series GPU it bundled with.

  20. 2:50 That's not PCI-E…

  21. Linus can you guys make a video about the new nvidia geforce now ultimate 4080 edition? Its incredible!!!! Could save people a lot of money.

  22. that's a rip off for $400? how? looks like a decent deal.

  23. I bought a desktop at that start of pandemic (before the price hikes etc). Just a HP box (i7 6th Gen, 16gb DDR3, cost just over £110 with P&P, then got a half-height 1650 card (it’s a half height PC) for £120 and 2TB SSD for <£100. Basically less than £300. Used it for remoting into other computers for uni, word processing and playing Minecraft in the pandemic with friends

Scary to see that some of these machines now would be sold for nearly double that on eBay, because I know it’s near the bottom of the barrel but it did me well for what I needed and when I was very tight on cash.

  24. I dreamt about you
