  1. I run Linux for the last 3 years and always an Amd gpu. Never had problems with the games I run. I suppose some of your problems are due to os.

  2. I don't share your experiences with an AMD GPU. Sure crashes happen in some games like the notoriously unstable next gen Witcher… But yeah my 7900 XTX is churning away at most games I play without any issues

  3. AMD has much better drivers on Linux.

  4. Last 7 years ive been using only amd started with rx 570 then 5700xt now 6700xt, never had any issues at all… now kids pc with old 570 sometimes shutdow, but its 570 and i was mining the hell out of it for years😂

i bought a 6700xt and it has the same issues as luke had, the way you install the driver matters an INSANE AMOUNT. i was having a mental breakdown because i couldnt return the card and 2 weeks of hell destroyed my mental but in the end it ended up working and the only issues i have are vulkan/opengl implementation being buggy, resolution scaling to the monitor is WORSE than nvidia (looks sharpened for no reason) and idle power draw was fixed by dropping my second monitor to 50hz instead of being at 60hz. the encoder is garbage but i have a gtx1050 lying around so it shouldnt be a problem to buy a riser and plop that card in the system for the encoder one day

  5. a really well-made video. I value the greater emphasis on quality. Continue your wonderful effort!

  6. Over 50 bucks a month in idle power draw is insane

  7. Do AMD GPUs truly encounter so many issues? I was quite confident in my plans to upgrade to an AMD GPU in the future instead of opting for an Nvidia GPU. My frustration with Nvidia was significant, but if AMD GPUs are plagued by such frequent problems, it forces me to reconsider my stance.

  8. This video makes me wonder about the skills of LTT teams,

Switched back to AMD for 6 months,

Figured out that the driver crash were caused by my CPU OC, so not AMD's fault

I can play remotely on my SteamDeck from my XTX & it's as good as it was on my 3080

I've been mostly issue free, besides BG3 that need to be played on Vulkan to avoid crash (back then)

  9. I wonder how many people feel for the windows shutdown edit 😀
    I use Arch btw.

  10. I have been an AMD user since 2003, never experienced any of these issues unless the graphics card had some hardware problems. Im using right now a very horrid amd rx550 4gb because i dont game anymore, i use it for programming, watching videos and doing some testing on some of my graphics at 144hz on a 3440×1440 monitor and yet it still behaves ok. The fact that i still get driver updates even today for such an old card says alot.
I still remember my old Radeon HD7970, when i bought it, it came with dx10, later when dx11 was released, the card was updated to support that, later again it was updated to support dx11.1, as if that wasnt enough i remember how happy i was once dx12 was released and my then very old high end gfx card was updated again to support almost fully dx12!

Never had this kind of awesomness with Nvidia, they retire their cards too soon, lock down new features on purpose to newer cards and dont even get me started on that nvidia gameworks, it was obsolence planning for older cards and locking down your competition with stupid mindless poligon counts on even simple 2d "meshes", disgused as this amazing breakthrough of graphics revolution which appart from their furr tech was pretty much none.

  11. The never ending problem for AMD is the video acceleration engine and driver. Discord, youtube, netflix, etc., cause crashes. It happened for years. I will buy the 7900 XTX and if it happens, it goes straight back to the store. I'm already having issues with Microsoft Edge and youtube, because of the iGPU in the 7800X3D, which you cannot turn off. Flawless 5800X3D because no iGPU, crappy problems sometimes because of the iGPU in the 7800X3D.

  12. Cool info, but i haven't had those problems at all, i am running older hardware for the most part though, other than the computer restarting while in sleep mode while not in use

  13. I wanted to love the AMD 5700 XT. My first time building a new PC in February 2020. I went with the Nvidia 2060. Within 3 months I wanted to be able to turn up my settings so I went with Red Devils AMD 5700XT. It first came with a driver that showed artifacts. After updating driver it fixed that issue but for the next 4 months was plagued with system restarts. Even updating to new drivers, would cause it to restart during gaming sessions. As a gamer you know there is nothing more frustrating than when your system automatically restarts. I even did a fresh install. I ended up selling and buying a Nvidia 2080 Super which I held onto until July 2022 when I bought a Nvidia 3080 Ti. My Nvidia cards never had the problem that my AMD card had. I currently have a 3070ti in my laptop that has had no issues since I bought it a year ago. I think team red needs to try harder if they want to get a better part of the market. If not I can wait 2 to 3 years before I upgrade to a new Nvidia. At least I know it will work fine.

  14. I've noticed if I use pro drivers I get 0 crashes

  15. I got my 7900XTX last year and it's been having a lot of driver timeouts even to this day which are incredibly annoying.
And now i'm having a problem which makes my pc restart itself or bluescreen which I suspect be my AMD cpu

  16. I switched from a 3060 TI to a 6570 XT and have had a pretty pleasant experience.

  17. I went to windows 11, for 6 months, and I had I had everyone of those issues, then my computer crapped out 1 week ago…. I formatted my drive and went back to windows 10. And every issue went away.

  18. Anyone else notice the "bug" at 1:14? lmao

  19. good vid

  20. That edit…. love it.😊

  21. I got rid of the hardcrashes after downloading the DirectX 9 Software from Microsoft.
To be fair: Nvidia Just wouldnt Open the Game at all if DirectX 9 is missing.
Obviously a Clean windows Install also fixed alot of Problems. DDU didnt really work.

  22. Since 2014 I had a HD7750, a radeon 260x, a rx 580, a Vega 56, a 5700XT and a 6800XT.

I never had all of the issues described here.
My only two issues in a decade were:

    1- in 2018 a driver update broke a PS3 emulator, fixed in 2 months.

2- when I placed my 6800xt using 5700xt drivers it took connecting to another monitor/TV to output.

3- when playing resident evil 8, in the first driver it crashed if I turned on RT.

That's it. Pretty good since I've had some nvidia issues with my 3080 too:
    – Gsync not working with Gsync Compatible monitors sometimes
    – Less performance even in VR Titles like Dirt 2. Yeah It was noticeable especially in VR.

Overall Nvidia is more stable but AMD is still super stable and recommendable.

  23. Probably yes, crashes do not matter if it is only about gaming. But guys, really…

  24. I have had the same issue with Chrome and YouTube on Linux with nVidia!

It was something with Chrome's hardware support for decoding video, it has been fixed quite a while ago! It even happened with VLC!

  25. The video tries to look like a positive amd opinion, but is more like a masked trash the amd video. I don't know what to think of you guys anymore.

  26. @ 12:33 is probably the most felt sound that I've ever heard on this channel, that's exactly the noise I make when something inconveniences me

  27. What worries me about AMD is the new crap AI trend that seems to be everywhere nowadays
Nvidia has already claimed that the future is not more powerful GPUs or more optimized things but AI processing
DLSS already plays a big role and while AMD FSR is fine, it's not nearly as good as the latest versions of DLSS

High hopes for FSR 3 🤞

  28. Lol I just got a 6950 xtx after my 1070 finally died

  29. AMD works extreme good with Linux

  30. I went and bought a last gen green GPU. 1080 Ti to 3080 Ti. It was the safest choice. When the 60 series launches we'll see where everything stands then. If I can get my 1080 Ti to last 2 gens I'll be doing my best to do the same now.

  31. I do not understand why so much unnessecary effort was put into this project with tearing apart hardline water tubing and riser mounted cards and such that will not match the use cases of 90% of watchers of this video. I believe for this or any other similar challenge should be done with non-personal PCs, and should just be purpose built desktops for the challenge with various CPUs and motherboards. Still use these desktops as your daily driver and install all the other software you want to use on them, don't put them in your personal machines of various ages and jank and expect to get relaitable results.

  32. Had the constant driver timeouts. Fixed it with the driver only install. Don’t get them when Adrenaline isn’t installed.

  33. I have a 7900xtx and also had the 100watts idle. my setup is 2x DP monitors(1080p and 1440P) and 1x HDMI TV(4k) for when i want to couch game.
what solved it for me is unplugging the HDMI cable. and the idle power dropped to 20watts. when plugged in again it goes to 100watts even when the TV is off. I mostly keep it unplugged when using the PC on my DP monitors.

  34. Love the editing work of Luke's issues. The sudden shut down felt too real, though. 😂

  35. Changed over from a RTX 3080 to a 7900XTX for this generation as I upgraded my monitor and didn't want to spend the unecessary amount on the 40 series. Since then, not had a SINGLE issue within the GPU. It's been solid for video editing, gaming and watching videos. Most of my games have been hitting 240FPS without issues and even then the ones that don't are still around 180-190FPS. Glad to see that this challenge in a sense was a success. But a shame to hear of the amount of issues present for it. I did a fresh install, as I forgot my riser is gen 3 and my motherboard reset to gen 4 when I updated the BIOS, so because of the amount of restarts the machine dide, I corrupted the windows install….YAY. But now, definitely not going back to team green for the forseable future

  36. Love this kind of video, the podcast vibe is amazing!
