It would be a sick effect if the 2x4s stood off the wall 1/4-1/2 an inch and have led strips going up the back of them. A little blue glow would be really cool.

Hard to call this a disaster, its a great thing you caught it before it was at the point that you absolutely had to redo the entire wall.
Also, I love these kind of DIY renovation vlogs you make. They're all very creative and I think its awesome that you've been able to do so much with the space that you have, as well as prioritizing space for your family to grow! For the new area, I would say you should make that more of a setup, and make the old area that you renovated a set. It just seems like that area is where you do most of your filming so keeping your area in sort of districts make a lot of sense to me, but IDK, obviously its your space, its gonna look good no matter what.

I'd cut a piece of the drywall to check the inside to see if there's a bigger mold problem. It'll be an easy repair and give you a piece of mind.
