1080p VR videos is so 2015. C`mon Apple, you can do better

  1. if anyone can move the dial on 3D / VR / AR at this time, it's Apple … and they seem to have all the pieces in place to make things accessible without being overly technical

  2. With all due respect do you use iPhone 15 pro? Last time I saw you were using iPhone 12 series if I am not wrong

  3. 10:24 you can watch Spatial Videos on literally any VR headset. I’ve watched dozens on Quest 3 this week.

U can see the video on quest 3 right now with an app, im disappointed cnet didn't even mention it

  4. its 4k display on each eye*

Im excited about the headset replacing TV/projectors. I have a big home theater setup that cost so much to create over 10 years. The idea that a headset could easily replicate a giant IMAX screen that's also got all the benefits of OLED has me excited

  5. It's a pity that video recording in 1080p 🙁 but it's marketing, then iphone 16 pro will be released, which will support 2k, 17pro will support 4k and so on…😢

  6. And who is going to buy vision it's so😊 expensive I think this is totally fail

  7. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  8. So its a feature that is totally useless if you do not have any intention to buy the vision pro.

  9. We have already done it with Htc 3d evo Smart phone in 2011

4K spacial video is not available… yet. It probably gonna come on a future iPhone. I am guessing iPhone 16 Pro will be able to capture 1080p spacial video at 60fps. Maybe iPhone 17 pro will get 4K 30fps. Who knows. That is if vision pro even does well. But I think it will because Apple has very deep pocket users.

  10. Holy eyeshadow Batman!

  11. I’ve been a fan of the concept of 3d capture since I had my HTC Evo 3D but the tech just wasn’t there and it was gimmicky at best. The Vision Pro is the first time I’ve been genuinely excited to see how it plays out. The potential uses for memories, mapping, therapy, crime scene capture, mechanical assistance, etc… is just going to be amazing. Many of us can only see this through the lens of experiences had but somewhere there is going to be some kid who gets this and dreams up a use case that will change the course of film making or human interaction and shared experiences. Truly an exciting time to be alive and see the potential birth of a new standard in tech.

  12. Thousands have lost their lives in a very sort space of time. But all your care about is spatial video! Lives gone, families shattered and wiped out, pregnant women giving birth to new born while hellfire missiles fly over them!

Where is your soul for humanity?

  13. I wish Apple just made a 3D projector hologram instead of this $3,500 headset. 😐

  14. Could be more feasible if Apple just made 3D compatible display with spatial camera. Just a pair of 3D glasses should be enough for that 😅

  15. 0:14: 📱 Apple has released the ability to record spatial video on the iPhone 15 Pro in the iOS 17.2 public beta, allowing users to record memories in a format that can be played back on Apple's Vision Pro headset when it comes out next year.
2:23: ! The Vision Pro allows users to record 3D videos on the iPhone 15 Pro and play them back in 3D.
4:34: 🎥 The reviewer discusses their experience with the Vision Pro headset and its pass-through cameras and display resolution.
7:01: 🎥 The video quality of the iPhone's spatial recording feature is impressive, but there is room for improvement.
8:59: 📹 The video discusses the use of spatial video and its potential impact on capturing and reliving memories.

  16. Scott Stein’s hair is in spatial video 😂

  17. I quite literally have not watched the new Avatar movie yet, in part because I’m waiting for the Vision Pro

  18. Sounds cool

  19. Meh,Apple, meh

Hold on, why the more i look at scotts face, i feel like his nose is a fake one? It looks like the toy nose that comes with glasses and mustache kit back in the day 😂

It's a strange implementation of the tech. I'm speaking from experience shooting 180-degree 3D VR with my Canon R5C and dual fisheye VR lens and then viewing the result on my Quest headset. I am surprised to see that it is only 1080 on the iPhone 3D recordings. I am shooting 8k on my Canon, which comes out to 4k for each eye and it still does not look *amazing*. What I find strange is that Apple is demonstrating the resulting footage in a window instead of immersive. Maybe the spread between the lenses is not enough to truly get a good 3D experience? Well, in any event, I hope that Apple's foray into the VR space results in easier workflows for the VR professional. And, please for the love of god remove the fake eye display on the front. It makes me cringe every time I see that demo.

  22. 4k 60 fps and it takes up less space in HDR. Also like you said it's cheaper to record and watch.

  23. Let’s get this mixed reality thing going!

  24. Does anyone remember the HTC EVO 3D? It was able to both play and record 3D videos and that was like 12 years ago.

  25. Do we all agree that people are just going to make home sextapes with the Apple 3D? 😅😅

  26. Do you want it?? It's just another gimmick

  27. Outing myself as a Bridget Carey stan! Carrying CNET on your shoulders queen, we love you!

  28. I’m a dad of three. I’m genuinely excited to be an early adopter of this tech to capture moments in a more immersive way.

  29. Bridgett it is good to see that you are keeping up with the current technology – your new iPhone 15.

  30. my nintendo 3ds did this in 2011….😎😎

  31. Waiting for spatial pr0n 💯

  32. HTC EVO 3D

  33. and great idea to take some now…. some company will find some much cheaper way to view these even if not in Vision Pro level quality and full immersion…. even if just a future novelty you might want at least some personal 'samples' of video of your fam for later. i feel people dont bother, unless a really strict family tradition, to go back through old photo albums or home videos too much anyway, so this gives the perfect excuse to record some now and have the reason to view them later in a new technology. get some video now for even just a few future viewings

Old people are always saying i remember my parents getting the (enter old technology here) and it was so big and bulky. I don't think anyone cares much about the 3k heavy, battery in your pocket to use it, vision device apple wants us to care about. Apple wants you interested in their products. CNET wants you interested in their videos. On your deathbed neither will matter. What will matter will be the loved ones present. Not the pictures/videos taken. For all time. always lol just finished watching Loki.

  34. thats nothing… got 2 TB ssd for direct video recording on my new pro max and love the feature it can record straight to the ssd. and pro res 4k 60 video is about 1gb every 5 seconds hehehehe

The camera is one of the least used feature on my iPhone.

Just hold your finger on the screen next to her face and it will 2x speed. Saves you time.

  35. “You can make 3D videos but you need this $3,500 optional device to view them”

    Hard pass. Unnecessary.
