Awesome Tips Nest Doorbell (battery) review: Google outsmarts the competition — mostly

Google’s newest video doorbell boasts great value and serious smarts. Plus, it dodges most of the criticisms that take down other doorbell cams on the market.

But a $6 monthly fee for Nest Aware subscribers and a few missing features put a damper on its success.

  1. No useful information for installing

  2. 3 hours? Wtf no thanks

  3. are we gonna talk about person that has a pineapple on his head🤨

  4. My battery one does not chime

  5. My primary concern with these devices is how easily (I assume..) they can be removed? (noting of course that as the OWNER of a battery-powered device I assume it MUST be fairly easy to detach (for when you need to charge it again, etc.). That's essential (ease of removal).. but in turn surely means it's very easy for some cretin out there to "borrow" your doorbell? (I note Google will replace a stolen one… but whilst that's a nice gesture I'd rather have something that isn't easily stolen in the first place!). What measures does this device have (if any) to prevent casual removal / theft? Thanks.

  6. You've mentioned how much bettter Arlo is in both the Nest and RIng videos, yet you haven't reviewed any Arlo product since 2018.

  7. Seriously, cut the hair off. It’s distracting. It’s time.

  8. Can the Nest doorbell alert you on Alexa or Google Home when delivery person drops off a parcel without ringing the bell?

  9. I'm surprise no ones talking about the creepy guy in the background at 2:00 who disappears when the aspect ratio changes

  10. Its HUGGGGEEEE WTF?

  11. Nest Doorbell is not good for me, I recommend eufy doorbell and cameras.

  12. Great review…very indepth! This was like reading the manual but more fun 🙂 Do people even read manuals anymore though…lol. Great job on your video 🙂

  13. Great review – thank you!

  14. "…which features slap". facepalm Dude, you're like 40 years old. Don't try and talk like the "fellow kids", mm'kay?

  15. This thing sucks it won’t connect to Alexa, won’t “ring” my phone al it does is put up a audible silent notification on my phone causing me to miss 99% of the times people ring the bell.

  16. The picture comparison lacks labeling.

  17. “Slap and flat” 🙄

  18. This thing will not work in prolonged winter temperatures. The thing runs off battery EVEN WHEN HARDWIRED, there is no way around the battery, and the battery fails below -10c. It will not charge via doorbell wires, and you have to unhook it and take it inside to charge via USB for at least 5 hours. The battery does not hold its charge in cold weather and will last as little as 1 week. Be warned.

  19. Great review, after having the doorbell battery for almost a month, I don't recommend it at all:
    1. the button is not clear for people to press! it sound silly but delivery people are knocking on my door not noticing the button (google made it too modern (very thin light on the button no symbol of a bell or anything) that doesn't convey the purprpose which is annoying.
    2. even when wired the battery keeps dropping off under 75% which what where it should stay at when wired according to google (meaning you will have to charge at some point as it will not work after getting to 3% even when wired)
    3. It's not good at play back events, a lot of times when playing history of events, the image is stuck but you can hear the sound of what's happening making the event useless
    4. there is no way to remotely restart the doorbell, you will have to take it off and press the button behind for 5 seconds. you will have to restart it at some point when there is a glitch (and it happens)
5 if the action was too quick you will only see the last end
    6. Google home is a mess, they have learned nothing from nest app (which is far more better)

  20. Test it in rainy conditions please.

    it looks ugly

  21. Shorts and OXFORDS?! Great vid though.

  22. Arlo wire-free is better? I shall keep it then

    It's a doorbell, not a security camera…

  23. Review on indoor wired

  24. 2:51 yeah but who wants a bulbus 180° video?

    • December 23, 2022

Id still go with my Toucan camera from Amazon with almost all of these features for half the price. The Camera has a 180° lens and keeps ur vids for 24hrs no subscription. Works with Google hub.

  25. What happen when people steal or smash it?

  26. Nice shirt

  27. We just had our wireless doorbell stolen off our house. It was an amazon Chinese knock off POS though. Happy to see it gone tbh. However it was pretty unsettling at 5am to hear the doorbell then see a ghostly faced guy who stole it. He was long gone by the time I had the courage to open the door after being woken up.

  28. Except Best notifications are extremely late

  29. Why is this video hosted by a barista?

    Omg he lost his head…

  30. Glad I watched this

I bought and returned this. Other than the video quality not being great the two biggest issues were that it wasn't 3 hours worth of events storage (i.e. multiple 30 sec clips adding up to 3 hours), it is events stored for 3 hours before cleared which is a real issue if something happens at night and the clip is deleted before you get up. Secondly when you get a notification and click on it, I would get the message that the video is not ready for viewing and you have to wait a while until it's available…. totally unacceptable and can't believe Google released a product with these types of issues.

  31. You do NOT get 3 hours of event recording for free. You will have access only to events that happened during the last 3 hours.

  32. Google ruined it by having just the last 3 hours recording without a description, should have been last 24h event recording.

  33. smart? wait till someone easily grabs this doorbell amd make it their own.

  34. Forget the doorbell if you are a G-Suite subscriber, does not work. Don't waste your time

  35. Don’t fall for Arlo doorbell. Their video preview won’t work. Every time some one ring the bell, Mobile notifications you get doesn’t show the video. I’m returning mine.

  36. It's better than you're making it out to be …in the end it's a doorbell to show you who is at your door when they Ring ….it's not a full security system…that what googles security cameras are

  37. I want pineapple man on every video. Just sayin.

    somewhat ok review, could be more in-depth. No comparison to the install; No comparison to the recharging;
