Retro Video Games and Consoles are back and bigger than ever but it’s hard to play them on your 4k OLED TVs. The Retrotink 4k might solve that problem, and we’re going to test if you even need to keep your CRTs. Trinitron? More like Trini-GONE! This UHD scaler has HDR, 120hz, advanced phosphor emulation and an HDMI input. But is it worth adding to your collection?

I'm disturbed by your 1:3 ratio, is there new TV or monitor standard on it's way?
What about RF? My Intellivision is only RF output without modification… I have yet to see a stand-alone RF tuner to composite adapter…
What a fantastic product, a shame it's $750!! I don't think there's many people that could EVER justify that price
I wonder what this would do for VHS tape transfers?
CRT like motion clarity on OLED without strobing? Pshhhh… you wish 😂
I don't see any difference
Yeah let me just spend a few hundred bucks on a fancy little plastic magic box instead of just getting a CRT for 20 bucks to play my games.
Cool but extremely niche product at this price point.
what if you connect a PC to it to play in 720p and upscale to 4K with higher fps? I assume it would be like with the Switch. But that would be an interesting choice for computers like SteamDeck when used on a large TV in the living room, especially with emulators
def need to add a PVM to the lineup of screens, to give the CRTs their strongest performer. its crazy how my better my PVM looks then a random crt off the street
Honestly, what we need is accurate emulation + mods. Anything else is just buying time.
Yeah, you review whatever you want. Then auction them off right?
Look at linus trying to get us to get rid of our crt tubes so he can hoard even more of them for himself..
3 seconds in and I hear CRT Tube Tv's.
The tautology :S
very sorry this is my take away.
I mean youre trying to dunk on a $10 product with that. most people dont want to and arent able to spend $750 on a niche product and why would they when there are other options for litterally $10 yes they provide a worse quality look but the $10 product is way more worth it 99% of people
Retrotink sounds like a grindr username 😂
Intro had me thinking, "that CRT blends pixels terribly!". Glad it wasn't actually a CRT. Gimmick debunked.
PROPS FOR USING A PROPER DICTIONARY AROUND 1:35 (looks like Cambridge?) INSTEAD OF GOOGLE (which is just 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦) OR MERRIAM WEBSTER (that Americans love so much whereas it's an absolute laughing stock for the entire rest of the world when they can't even make proper phonetic transcriptions lmao)
I want to plug it in and play. Multiple consoles. I do not want to fiddle with configurations and settings each time I hook up a new console. That is the downside to this IMO and the reason I'll stick to CRT (or just a flatscreen with scart input) for a little while longer.
People can trash this channel all they want… i always look forward to the next sponsor segment. Shit's hilarious. He doesn't even try. He just naturally funny.
when they brought up there is an fpga in there I knew it was gonna be really expensive
GBS-Control. Best bang for the buck. Look no further if you play from time to time (as most of us).
Currently watching this in 240p at work on a phone 😂
Is it just me or your lighting/camera got better?
that lovely controller a s m r 20:05😢❤
Oh heavens, the price is crazy.
This is incredible and you explained it all in a way I can understand. Wonderful video guys!
Now compare it to the best emulators on PC that have their own upscaling and filters. You lose the nostalgic pixelated look but you get a buttery smooth crisp modern image that looks great on your modern display.
I thought Anthony would have done this video. Is he still around? I haven't seen him much lately.
Update: I just read the LTT update, and Emily I am glad that you found yourself, I still think you would be the perfect person to do this review. I always appreciate your views on retro tech.
I was born as and identify as a straight male, I went to school with a person who now identifies as non-binary. When I knew this person at school I could tell they were lost as a person, when I saw them recently they were a complete person, they had overcome the journey of self-discovery. If I am honest, I am jealous of how much this person knows themself.
I have nothing but best wishes for you on your journey, I am sorry that there will be haters out there, but I am sure that for every hater there will be many more people who appreciate you. I hope you start to host videos again soon.
someone got a text
Finally an enjoyable video not ruined by bad jokes and unseriousness👍🏻
Made me want Oled and retrotink for my good old C64😊
In the old days, a great scaler that didn't do any kind of emulation but simply converted between resolutions would have cost maybe $7000 so this is pretty cheap for such a high quality emulation with minimal latency.
750$ RetroTink (or 819€ for my country) vs a free CRT or 50€ mhmm i think i get the CRT mate
Analogue vs digital. film vs sensor for photo, vinyl vs hi res streaming for music …. V different things, good to know what you like
Even though it emulates the CRT interlacing/ progressive scan, is the RT usable for lightgun games?
I think you should have reviewed old but high quality DVD players with movies, too. If this thing can do proper conversion, it should be really good for video/movie content, too.
i have had unironically a CRT as tv until 2016 and i gotta say… i don't miss them at all, idk if mine was some dogcrap quality one but it was at best light grey rather than black, fuzzy looking and all around very bad.
The Retrotink looks so good, but there's just no way to justify $750 for one of these.;..
I have been watching Linus Tech Tips for so long that it seems like these guys are a part of my family. I subscribed back in the day on Nov 26, 2010, thats 13 years! Just wanted to say thanks for all the amazing memories and amazing content you guys work so hard to produce for all of us.
I'm sorry but $750? What lmao
750 dollars?!?
20:45 Wait… this doesn't support 4K 120 Hz output with black frame insertion and mask emulation at the same time? That would have been perfect to simulate old displays. If it could do 4K 100 Hz with VRR displays to simulate PAL with black frame insertion, it would have been even better.
whats up wth IR remotes, why dont we have bluetooth or wifi so we can use smartphone as a remote
