I am surprised that like the M1 and M2 MacBook Airs the new base level M3 MacBook air is misconfigured by Apple to give it sub-optimal performance. There is no excuse for only providing a 256 Gb SSD or only 8 Gb of RAM in any laptop costing more than $1,000 in 2024. A big problem in the UK and I guess also in America is that retail outlets only sell the 256 Gb flash/ 8 Gb RAM models and so it takes a real effort to buy a properly configured MacBook from a store.
Apple are also still providing too little flash storage in the standard models of iPhone. I challenge anyone to find anything other than the 64 Gb iPhone SE 5G 2022 in a retail outlet. I would also challenge anyone to find an Android phone with less than 128 GB flash at the iPhone SE 5G 2022's price point.
The decreasing cost of PC SSDs still follows Moore's law and so I am certain that it costs less to manufacture a 512 GB M3 MacBook Air than it did to manufacture a 256 Gb M1 MacBook Air.
Being an apple user for so many years, 8 gb of ram and 256 gb of storage at 1100$ in USA and 1390$ in India is just theft at this point!!!!!!!!!!!!

bummer, I was hoping for more changes. So I looked online, and was able to find a M1 MacBook Air (with 16gb ram). Too bad it doesn’t have MagSafe but this machine will do what I need for now.
I am looking to swap out my pc desktop and go to a macbook. This will most likely be the purchase for me.
Pretty much quintessential small upgrade from Apple
*Small upgrade in performance M3
*Wifi upgrade
*Ability to use dual display
Might as well save the money and get yourself the M2 or even M1 refurb

Starting storage of 256GB SSD in 2024 is highway robbery. 1 TB NVMe SSDs are cheap as dirt now.

Since I had to get a new one recently, I’m glad this came out today because I’m still within the return period. Given that I got the 15”, it’s just a slightly better version for the same price.
Going to skip until 16GB memory becomes the standard
M2 to M3 is not worth it honestly those machines will last years if you do simple tasks on them

Still using my 2020 M1
Too expensive and APPLE is no longer the poster boy.We use Chromebooks for our educational needs Australia wide now. APPLE can't even get an iPhone 15 release without it over heating. Android phones are better than Smartphones and there is no AI on Apple products and SIRI is severely neglected and sub optimal. APPLE are too busy making toys like those GOGGLES and as for my SE2020 it is a Headcase that has more glitches and drop outs and dramas and its only3 years old. Won't upgrade past ios 17.0. You keep your Lap Tops . Even Lenovo and ASUS are better in my opinion.
