Sony has made a lot of cool products over the last few decades, and while the Vidimagic FP-60 CRT projector might not be impressive today, it had a lot going for it back in 1984.

Deals for Days. Big home savings are happening now.
Had an ad for a LTT tracksuit. I'm still laughing
Repair yeah, loop in the technology connections channel if possible
They say they include a few projector links but don’t. Too many channels do this. Laziness
These projectors were designed to be used with high gain silver surface reflective screens to increase the brightness. The silver surface actually increased the perceivable brightness by almost twice!
Genuinely thought I had a ratio issue with my TV screen watching this into 😅
poor dan….. yeah fix it!
We went from beaded Linus videos and baby faced Linus ads, to baby faced Linus and beaded ads. The circle of life. Perfectly balanced.
I NEED to see Dan fixing it!
I LOVE the "Technology Connections" look and vibe!
should get 12voltvids to come and help fix it, he lives in BC
I like how Sony went from this to a projector that can fit in the flipout screen of their Handycams
Would be awesome to see it being fixed!
I feel like Linus could open a museum of ancient tech.
I would absolutely LOVE to watch Dan try to fix it with the help of the experts that have commented on here!!!
Bought a Barco 708 in around year 2005 when I was 15. It could do 1280×1024@60hz, but as it was analog, the real limitation was the total kHz.. So I ran it at 1920×1080@30hz without issues. That was great! Still have it in storage, would be fun to take out and try again.
Granted, I'm not sure how "sharp" that 1080@30hz was in reality, but for my usage for movies back then it was fantastic. A bit of a hassle to convert the VGA to BNC though, had to enable some h/v-sync options in the AMD drivers, and I think I also ran it through a separate converter at some point. (Yes, being the geek I am, movies back then – and now – are played from the PC on the TV/Projector)..
Would love an episode with Dan trying to repair it. 🙂
I'd love to see Dan trying to fix this
Whats with the jacket in the intro? Did someone shoot the couch?
FFS for the first 20 second of the video i tought that my headphones were gone !!
Play the intro in 144p
"it's not bad" yes it is lol
Metric!
Dan definitely needs to get in and fix it!
Danfix Danfix Danfix! Please get Dan to fix it.
Oh really linus?how much did you pay for it?
Dudes, the fact you initially went with Super Mario 3 is amazing. I grew up with a dream of playing Mario 3 in a theater and when I finally got a projector it was the first thing I hooked up. Y'all are on the wavelength!
2:21. Can you stop that laugh. It's like any tv show. You say a thinng and crowd laughs. Stop it.
Please grow back your beard Linus. Please.
In the 90s we had a Mitsubishi rear projection TV and I hated it from day 1. Even at it's best it never looked all that great. It was just incredibly dim and the three beams weren't calibrated and aligned correctly. My brother once tried playing Dead Rising for the xbox 360 on it and it was unplayable lol. We had that TV in our living room until 2005 when someone out of pity gave us their old Trinitron.
I'd rather you buy this crap than me. I'd be poor lol
Water cooling??? No. That red thing and the tubing is the potted and heavily insulated high voltage block. If you feel like opening it up, you may want to try turning up the screen control (big knob on that red HV divider, you can't miss it) to compensate for an aged CRT. 12voltvids had to do that to get the beam index working. Seems like yours has a lot of hours on it. The patten of blurriness on the lens is probably baked on dirt, either on the front or back surface. Doesn't seem like burn in at all.
there is no way NO ONE is the comments have talked about the ear bleeding high pitched noises the projector makes once it got turned on. 1:48
Now compare that thing to those early smartphones with built-in projectors.
That high pitch ringing is so annoying
Dan fix it please 🙏
I spent many a Friday afternoon setting up an RGB three CRT Sony projector in the Atrium at CNN Center for TBS to project Hawks basketball games back in the late 1980s. Gawd, aligning those things were a pain.
Thank you for not making this video HDR like you did with the latest big chinese TV so YouTube doesn't shove it down my throat with no option to watch SDR.
Maan the vintage look 😂🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
Dude a crossover between Technology Connections, LGR, and LTT, just imagine it
