i love to see Linus geeking out
Honestly, instead of wearing a half mask for painting I always prefer the full mask for pretty much anything
Great interview
Jim Keller is THE Chad!
Loved the interview and his insights are sooo valuable!
2:08:03 the minecraft in question:
Linus is such a bad interviewer lol. A little girl could've done a better job. Jim Keller is also VERY QUIET
Wait you seriously shipped the Spiffing Brit's tea PC without cleaning the loop after the tea-gag for the video? Sorry but you all are idiots or someone took 'not my job' quite seriously from who worked on that build.
11:55 he didn't get to finish answering the question!
Regarding the paintball turret, there's been a rash of reports surrounding people stealing cars in and around the Greater Toronto Area. Specifically, police are instructing potential future victims to leave their keys by the front door to avoid home invasions due to some theives using large antennae to trigger the fob and/or allowing them easy access once they've broken in to your front door.
Not saying this specific use case makes sense, but a non-lethal rapid fire close range assault on someone approaching your front door at 2am with a gun might be enough of a deterrent. Then again, it might escalate and instigate an even more violent interaction than would have previously occurred (and that's not even mentioning the legal ramifications). The problem is car theft and home invasions with no real legal/safe way to protect against property theft/bodily harm in these situations. This is also amplified by the financial hit of continuing to pay for financing, insurance deductibles, and replacement vehicle fees over and above what insurance will cover. Not saying it's a good idea, but it's honestly kind of sad people are just being left to fend for themselves.
1:33:27
well you also don't know how big that is it is very hard to gauge on the video, like it could be 8 feet tall and have a huge battery in the chest 2:21:23
I have come back to watch the Jim Keller talk because I was only half listening the first time and it is so much more interesting and great. It is always great to see someone so passionate about EVERYTHING they are talking about, "Sorry we kept you so long" "That's okay I like talking to you guys and talking about this stuff hahaha"
What a great interview… ๐๐ผ
doc martin have been trash since mid 2000
BD's Atlas has become Xolum
Fallout show was awesome!
Please make a quarter zip!
I wonder what their thoughts would be on Drake using AI to not only "bring back" a deceased artist but also one imitate one that's still alive. The first high profile use of AI in music as far as I'm aware.
The only way to get HP to stop doing the crap they do is to hit them with fines or lawsuits large enough that it becomes cheaper to stop doing the crap they do than to keep paying out the fines and lawsuits.
What I want to know is who is actually buying their printers and keeping their printer division in business…
It's Guaranteed?
Trust me bro…
About a decade ago I shipped a desktop PC tower as hold baggage on a commercial flight. Do NOT do this unless you have a LOT of padding.
my only issue with Jim Keller was that AI video game take no way anyone is gonna like that if they want to play the full game like they did when it was new maybe it could work for space invaders but games like fallout it would have trouble keeping every quest the exact same and other details it would ruin the art because video games are art at least some of them
Linus calling ppl who adblock parasites is always fun to hear. Not that i care about that, but lets not forget how much data youtube/google sells about it's users, paying or not.
There is almost no company that is 100 years old that is stimmt viable? I look at the top 20 companies in Germany and about half of those are 100 years and older…
Blocking ads is not black and white piracy, as Linus often espouses. Its not a downloaded marvel movie that cost millions. The difference? Youtbe (and others) make money hand over first by selling my userdata, more now than ever with AI hoovering as much personal data as possible before it gets regulated. Ads are the cake in addition the hand-over-fist, and thats what makes it different from plain piracy. I already am the product and Google has re-sold the 1 million metrics that define me several times over already.
The issue of ads and premium pricing isnt to ensure content creators are properly compensated for the free content that they donate to google on YT. The issue is the bloated size and scope of google as a company, requiring unreasonable revenue to stay afloat.
Vote with your wallet. The instant YT becomes unwatchable with ads, go to another site. Read a book. Make content yourself. The only answer is to stop feeding the monster.
One thinks they are smart until you meet a guy like Jim Keller. Dudes genius.
Great interview
If a reviewer has a hypocratic oath its not to the subject of the review but the watcher
Ace Hardware is 100 years old this year.
Also, paint balls winter will freeze and do more damage or burst, maybe.
Doc Martens is in a problem because their stuff falls apart on the way from the store
Theoretically speaking, how much more effective would the raw power we develop for computing on x86 be if it was exactly as powerful only somehow tailored to run solely on ARM or RISC V? Like in this theory all our modern super powerful GPUs and gaming specific hardware exist, but x64/x86 themselves as task sets don't actually exist. How many more or less fps would I probably be able to run Starfield at in 1440p?
This interview incredible! It made me rethink my view on AI – Great insights! Fun and amazing! thanks guys!
I could see how uncomfortable Linus would get every time Jim would say something good about Elon ๐๐
Linus does have a pretty naive view on how Google will monetize youtube once adblocks are gone, they don't plan to make some money, they want to make ALL of the money.
From a product development point of view some bad reviews can actually be desired, IF they highlight surprising faults of your product you were unaware of, the bennefit here is: IF the review suck, you Improve the product on those points, then send the new product to the same reviewer, maybe suggesting without saying it, "hey here's an updated product, try throwing a hammer at this one!". Saying hey we actually heard your criticism and adressed it, you should be able to see an improvement. Your reiew might not be good, but it should deffinitely show improvement, and if you do it enough eventually you should be able to get a story told that your product gets progressively better.
From a Marketing PoV this ofc. can be sufferable time, but you must not look short term only, you should look at the short term as a way to get to your end user feedback, and create an outsourced testing protocol, and share the progress long term as an overall +, gaining a reputation of a company who listens to its costumers. When you stop doing this you can ride your sucess for a while, until you end up like Blizzard anno 2024. Its comparable to Goodwill but for your Reputation. See bad reviews as an investment, not as bad publicity. This is the key.
Absolutely beyond baffled by the assertion that an AI, even a theoretical one, could re-create the entire game Mario brothers from a video clip. Maybe it could create a Mario-like game, maybe it would even feel exactly like Mario, but even a human creator could never infer from one clip the contents of the entire game. (And what advantage there could possibly be to this approach is beyond me, when 6502 emulation takes less processing power than the audio chip on a Hallmark card)
RiscV <3
Had my dad's old palm pilot in middle school. Can confirm
As someone who repairs boots and shoes for a living saying Doc's are ruining their business by being too good made me lol, for decades they were amazing quality boots but since they moved operations to china they are everything but. I see boots that are few months old splitting on the uppers which is normally the last part of the boot to wear out
Y yo dont blame the A "freaking" I maker?..
google nabbed someone on my family plan he emailed them and was like nah I live with him, and they were just like oh okay and put him back on he lives like 4 hours away xD though I use a vpn for YouTube all the time so good luck pinning down where I live
Spring guns are illegal in the United States, Canada. (turret paintball gun)
I am someone who has a laptop all the time in their bag when I'm in college, as I prefer using my own Laptop for both Mandatory Labs and Project Labs, as I prefer my stuff being saved to my own Laptop. I can't underestimate how much difference SSDs have made. Ansys, Xilinx, MATLAB, etc no longer take up like 5+ minutes to load and I don't have to care about my HDDs dying because it's inside a moving bag for the entire day, 5 days a week.
You dudes is smart
The interview was by far the best hour of WAN show ever. I donโt think interviews will always be that great but this was fantastic.
Atomic-Semi sounds like a robot in need of Viagra.
