😈To quote Alucard "That's a STUPID gimmick and everyone knows it."
It was great technology, just not worth the headaches or the pink eye from trying the glasses at Best Buy
Another reason for its failure was because you get half as much light per eye. The tvs were dimmer when viewing in 3D. So it was a pile of suckage.
My living room is still rocking my 2014 LG 1080p 3D TV. Fantastic image quality, and since I believe, that 4K is more of a gimmick compared to 3D, I will keep running this thing as long as it lasts.
I really like 3D and I bought the stuff (also got a 3D Bluray Player and many 3D movies). So I am pretty sad, that it didn't last. 3D content makes a real difference.
Oh nooo… anyway.
I bought one and still have it. The biggest draw back was the 30 fps per eye. Not the smoothest experience, but thief was pretty good if my rig didn't dip below 28fps.
I actually loved 3D gaming. Tomb Raider 2013 was a lot of fun. I find it disappointing that I only managed to get into that trend until after it was dieing. But I had my first freely spendable budget and damnit I wanted I nice PC with 3D capability. No regrets, but I have none of the equipment anymore
i still have my Active 3d Panasonic TV and my glasses are not anywhere near that big.
Active 3d Uses 2 panels in the TV to create the 3d Image at full1080p and you need powered glasses to view it.
Passive 3d uses interlace tech to Generate the image and don't need powered glasses but only Generates the image at 720p
We still have our 3d tv.
God damn right I didn't buy into that gimmick.
Bbut I did
Still have my 3D tv. Works fine
I'm going to watch Avatar in 3d, try to stop me!
Wait a second I had the powered shutter glasses and I enjoyed them
I still got one, wish they were more successful cuz I really liked watching 3d at home
I killed 3D TV? Aw..
Always got massive headaches from 3D cinema.
Both of Samsung shutter glasses got broken years ago, but I do still have a pair of Nvidia ones laying around and I imagine they still work too. I last used them a couple of years ago with an old CRT monitor, I forget for what. I believe I originally bought them to play Batman though.
In cinemas those 3D glasses also gave me headaches like nothing else in this world.
3D projectors are much easier to get for home use, you can get them for under 500USD.
Well didn't you have to buy a separate device to activate the 3D capabilities of a TV on top of buying the glasses? My parents bought a 3D TV but never but the 3D device to activate the 3D.
but… but i did buy it haha
You didn't buy it….
Yeah, you stole it
You can actually watch 3d movies on your Oculus with Bigscreen beta.
Actually I did buy it I still have it. It still works I just don't use the 3d feature any more it was cool for 3 minutes and that's it lmao
But I did buy one 🙁
And honestly my biggest problem was the selection of movies.
I LOVED Avatar, but you had to decide between the 3D version or the extended cut. And I loved the extended cut more. Bummer.
With TVs nowadays always doing 120Hz, it might even be feasible to hack shutter glasses based 3D into current devices 😀
We didn't buy it because the technology was fucking trash lmao
I played some 3D PS3 stuff on my aunt's fancy 3D Samsung years ago haha
Lair, I have a 3d tv you guys just need to get good.
I’d have bout it if the models with 3D weren’t significantly more expensive with no available content. If they add 3DTV output to the PS5 Pro, and the 3DTV models were only a few hundred more, I’d be first in line on PS5P launch day, with a (probably Sony or LG) 3DTV in the cart.
Then when there’s a bunch of people with 3DTVs, we just need the major streaming services to add support, so we have non-game content to watch other than YouTube.
Also, when the tech catches up, how long before we get the Wan Show streamed in 3d?
Let’s be real… VR killed 3D.
Anyone producing 3D content saw early VR and thought well this is gonna explode, why spend the money on 3D when consumers are going to switch to VR.
I wait for movies makers to play around with VR, that’ll be sick
I have a couple 3D Blu-Rays that I would love to be able to watch. I was hoping there would be an active shutter solution that I could use with my laptop, but I haven't been able to find anything. The best solution I've found is to use a VR headset, but I really don't want to buy into VR just for the few 3D movies I have.
As Elrich Bachman said 3D movies suck we are doing them a favor😂🤣
Games in 3D was the shit. The batman games looked so flippin' good in 3D and bulletstrom was excellent as well.
These days we have 240hz panels, we could get 120hz refresh per eye, I'm pretty sure most peoples headaches would go away with high refresh and the polarized lenses.
cause no matter what type of glasses or screen you used, the 3D movies sucked EVERY TIME.
Why did it disappear? You didn’t buy it . 😂
They charge $4 at my theater for those
But I bought a 3D TV ;( Now I can't find a replacement ;(
3D is just a gimmick. It does not improve the story or experience. I barely remember all the 3D movies I watched, therefore I refuse to pay the extra cash. …… Christopher Nolan agrees 👍🏼
WTF is he serius, did he watch a whole movie in 3D on any tv at least ones?!
DON'T "you" me i have a 3D tv
I think i was to young to buy anything then…
Still have one. Once in a while it’s nice to have ppl over to watch a good 3D movie.
Yea they dropped 3D TVs in favor of TVs with built in advertising
Dog people shit on it all the time but COD Black Ops 2 was dope asf with 3d mode on.
I still have a 3D TV I just don't use the 3D part of it because I lost the glasses for it
One of my friends has a 3D TV. I tried playing a game on it and I felt like my eyeballs were going to fall out. It was neat, but I couldn't deal with it.
Active glasses are vastly superior but ok
