  1. Are you team Nest, or team Ecobee?? 🤔

    Ecobee Premium: https://amzn.to/3MoT5On (affiliate links)

  2. Nest was looking reasonable until the smart home integration. I am sorry, but Matter is meant to be plat agnostic and to work totally locally. Google is part of the conenctivity alliance and they are abusing the Matter protocols. This alone would make me choose Ecobee.

  3. You said if you don’t have a C wire you can’t use the ecobee but I think the ecobee comes with an adapter that takes the Y, R, etc and makes enough power to not need the C wire I think.

  4. Do we really need either? I'm testing 2 Sonoff temp sensors and a Aquara. My front end voice software averagea the temp of all the sensors. All we need in HK/HA is software to turn the HVAC off/on and better(?) software controls and we're set.

  5. Excellent video – thank you! I was evaluating both these options and you made y mind up for me – Ecobee it is!

  6. 10:23 I will never own a thermostat without a Differential setting again, full stop. Why Ecobee is one of the only thermostats to have it will forever baffle me. It's such a critical setting to tune your system, helping with performance, energy, and reducing wear and tear. Everyone can benefit from it and all it needs to be is a simple software setting. Yet, almost all thermostats hardcode it to 1/2-1 degree. Makes. No. Sense!

  9. I had Ecobee and then I put in a Nest Learning Thermostat and I like it even though it doesn't integrate with HomeKit, boo, but I think I am going to take it out, I have had more than one person tell me that Nest thermostats burn up the boards on the furnaces including a home inspector and an engineer. Think I am going to put the Ecobee back in tomorrow in fact.

  10. I was all set to buy the Nest, but after watching this video and learning (no pun intended) so much more about them both, I think I'm switching to the Ecobee! Thank you for pointing out the pros and cons. VERY helpful video.

  12. I have the ecobee and it's… fine. Annoyed by the ads they're putting into the app lately. Are there any smart thermostats that are entirely local and don't send my home data somewhere else?

  13. What about monthly subscriptions… do either of these require you to pay monthly for any of the features? That would be something to consider as well.

  14. I have owned both and can say without a doubt ecobee is far better than nest. Nest is nothing but fancy junk and is a waste of money.

  15. Ecobee was and always will be hot garbage.

  16. I think only nest supports opentherm. That's a big deal for UK

  17. Neither. I don't want to setup a cloud account just to have a thermostat setup.

  18. Nest is like Roomba. They were first movers in their categories, but were too slow to innovate and the competition passed them by.

  19. Yeah, but… which one of these keeps your spouse from speaking to you? I need 2, just in case…

  20. I want decent one with complete local control via HA.

  21. I have the Ecobee I love it.

  22. I have the ecobee enhanced, looks like there's more information showing up in the home app with the premium as only basic functionality exists on the home app with the enhanced. With gas company rebate of $75 the premium is the better option as it also comes with a temperature sensor in the box. Also having built in Siri is nice so you don't need a HomePod as it has one built in and you can do hey Siri commands to control the thermostat or anything else you have in apple home kit without needing a separate device. You can even play Apple Music through the thermostat. Having integration with the doorbell is nice but it is it a bit laggy and the ecobee doorbell requires subscription while many of it's competitors don't so that makes it less attractive, maybe you can have some sort of wall mounted tablet like the one amazon makes instead, though that can be quite laggy as well.
