There’s always that one form that you just HAVE to print out, that one professor that demands a hard copy. Is it really worth buying a printer for that once-in-a-while problem?

My experience with epson eco tank printers has been horrible. The nozzles seem to clog with dried ink if you don't print every single day & they only allow you to run the cycle which de-clogs them a very limited number of times. I used mine for the first time today after leaving it for a week or so any the Magenta and blue seemed to be starting to clog again. The Yellow on my printer has been clogged for years & it won't let me run the most powerful unclogging cycle for no obvious reason, while the normal one does nothing to clear it. There's also a stupid "maintenance box" which doesn't seem to do anything & they arbitrarily make you replace after a certain number of pages printed. They are just as much a scam as cartridge printers but work even worse.
10:50 So, in reality, all it took was using Linux. That's actually pretty good.
The gutenprint driver is pretty much a given first troubleshooting step, so that barely counts.
I’m no expert with computers but I’ve only had a one time that I could NOT help someone get their computer up and running properly.
Printers though… I refuse to help anyone trouble shoot a printer. The only good reliable printer I ever used was a $10,000 business machine. That one still needed a visit from a tech at least twice a year.
I hate printers and I will go far out of my way to not have to own one.
Fantastic intro! And nice detail at the "wait a minute.. it's present year" with linus' hand covering the year number at the bottom right!
Moral of the video: if you need a printer, literally anything you can find is probably a better buy than a modern HP printer.
I use an old Brother laser printer which was used for concert ticket printing from my old boss. Bought it for 9€ around 8 years ago and the toner is still working. Use it still twice a week at least.
The Epson Ink Tanks are AMAZING, We have an L5190, it needs a service once every 2 years because the print head is very fragile but the cost of the repair comes nowhere near the cost of ink cartridges
I have bought four printers in my entire life. The two I bought new are in this video. The other two were ex-business HP Laserjets and they are indestructible workhorses.
NB we rarely print colour on our Epson tank printer but haven't yet had any issues with drying out or clogging when we do after several months of black only.
My photo printer is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more expensive than all the printers linus has put together.
You can have a normal modern (and new) ink printer with a scanner for 60$. I don't understand LTT purposely choosing random used crap just to fit the price multiple for the video title.
One copy of LTT fanfic please.
Elder Millennial in a friend group of mostly zoomers…I'm the only one with a printer. I commented on it once and the consensus was "Why would I need one?" About once or twice a year I end up with one of them asking me to print some adult shit for them LOL
Meanwhile I'm over here like "90% of what I print are D&D character sheets and battletech record sheets, but I'ma pretend like I'm the responsible adult in the group."
For the record, it's a Brother laser printer that's been in service since 2011. They really do last forever
What about saving Trees by stop using paper 😏
I print mostly color graphics and photos, and the Epson Eco Tank is a game changer! It works absolutely great, and I'm still on my original set of ink bottles, hundreds of printed images later.
YO LGR IN A LTT VIDEO????
I bought some trash portable thermal printer . It sucks but i wanted it to sit in a hot car incase i ever needed it

You should talk about how Apple is still supporting printers from over 2 decades ago, because they keep rolling over drivers. Very helpful for industrial printers like plotter printers for CAD drawings
So, a big W for Linux
Printers have sensors a think. They knwo when you are in a rush. They were invented by the devil. I got a pixma ciss printer which with a full tank of color ink managed almost a thousand pictures on photo paper which actually payer for itself at about the 400 mark compared to a cheap cartridge printer.
Came here to watch this cuz Linus on the wan show was sad about nobody watching this
page wide 10000 xl daily driver
The more expensive you make it to print, the less that people will want to print. They'll try to figure out alternatives (paperless offices, digital photo frames, etc). Short-term profits, long-term losses.

I completely forgot about the speed of ancient printers. Heaven forbid you have an issue in the middle of that 3 hour photo print
Can we please have some more consumer printer videos and comparisons, looking at printing quality between 6 colour photo printers such as the ET-8550 and 4 colour printers?

You guys should look into doing a colab with technology connections. He does an insane amount of research on household appliances, from completely mechanical tosters, to relay based pinball machines, to high tech dishwashers and printers. I am sure he would have loved to work with you on this.
One interesting thing he would have pointed you towards are color led printers, basically lazerjet with color
I'm going with The Verge's advice of "just buy this Brother laser printer everyone has, it’s fine." The article is a good read, too
People I know: "I need a printer"
Me: Good luck! Don't call me when it doesn't work.
I have a HP laser printer that can only print black but who cares it works and I have changed the toner once in the 10 years I have owned it. The Wifi function doesn't work anymore and hasn't for a long time and of course I don't know why. For the few pages a month I print it's more than enough.
Home printers are a joke to use. Their costs are soooooo much more than going to a place that costs per page.
I tried to have a home printer soo much, and it just didn't work out. I paid to buy a new printer every time because the basic costs were astronomical.
