  1. Petition to host Riley for the ent9irity of the next WAN show

  2. Even coming up with the idea for Floatplane to switch to Flutter is wild lmao. Maybe a dedicated mobile app in Flutter would make sense, but React and Vue are really the only reasonable candidates for modern dynamic web apps that need to work on non-mobile devices.

  3. A combi oven is shit, you only have that if you don't have enough money to buy separate appliances.

  4. When I was a young lad I bought two XFX NVIDIA GTS 250s to use in SLI. At some point many years later, one died and XFX still honoured the life-time warranty and gave me a mid-ranged AMD GPU back. That second 250 is sitting in a box biding its time.

  5. A warranty is only as good as the company that delivers it.

  6. The LTT screwdriver will absolute screw things in for you…when handled by an employee or family member!

  7. I've been running an M1 Mac Mini and it beats my Ryzen 9 3900x + 2070 super machine as a daily driver. Most tasks are faster, it's only graphically intensive things like gaming or Premiere where I switch to my gaming rig. As a software dev, I have the beefiest Lenovo ThinkPad there is, and it's slow as balls in comparison to both my gaming rig and my M1 Mac Mini, and I would happily use an M1 Macbook Air instead.

  8. 1:40:01 I love this convo btw, though on the other hand if you compare lifestyles based on the Marxist definition of class can you compare really a 100K a year Canadian office worker lifestyle to a 3K a year Indian small town shue maker or factory worker? There is also so so-called "petite bourgeoisie" the small business owners and such but guess what!? Those can be poor and failing as well, in fact they can be business owners forever in service of a larger business that takes all the profits, like a small store on amazon where the real winner is always Amazon.

  9. 1:39:08 Marxist theory is valuable to read and all but unfortunately, the world is very different from when he was writing all that. Marx was changing his opinions even within his lifetime, so there is no reason to be stuck in an 18th-century understanding of class dynamics and capitalism, in fact, Marx believed that we would move away from capitalism organically, he was a modernist and therefore he believed in this sort of linear progression of humanity, this idea that future will always be better, and now we know this is not the case as instead of moving towards a stateless moneyless society we are moving towards new digital feudalism.

  10. have a break , have a kitkat was also an commercial 🙂

  11. Canadians say about allot and a little bit strange ?

  12. iFixit is just making a really bad business decision at this point. They could've partnered up to offer a premium iFixit kit with an LTT precision screwdriver in it, made a boatload of money and moved on, but instead they're taking the 'we are now competitors' route for no reason. Hell, if shipping weren't so horribly expensive on the LTT store I would've ordered a precision screwdriver and then a new iFixit kit to put it in, getting them a free sale without being affiliated in any way.

  13. I'm pretty neutral on Elon, but man does Linus love nothing more than to go on and on about him.

Like I get your criticisms, and I'm not even trying to challenge them. But at the same time, the amount of time they spend talking about him is exhausting. After a while I just have to skip to the next segment.

PS: I strongly dislike the current format where merch messages are littered throughout the show. OG wan where superchats were read at the end of the show was perfect because you got to enjoy the show then digest it over some super chats. I'm not going to stop listening but this isn't it IMO.

  14. Someone like this so I can remember to make Linus' facepalm into a gif 28:50

  15. Did not know Dan was a fellow comrade.

  16. On the subject of warranty exploitation.

I bought a office chair in 1998 for $99 with a $5 2 year extended warranty from Office Depot, every 18 months when something would inevitably wear out sometimes I would need to take a picture, normally I would call in and report it and they would just mail me a gift card, I would get a new office chair with a 2 year warranty for $5-12.

I cycled through 11 chairs before I bought a quality chair which ended up only lasting 6 years, it had a 10 year no questions asked warranty… but I would have to take to a authorized store or ship it in to get the warranty covered, which would have cost over $400 on a $600 chair.

  17. Riley is a bloody legend lol

  18. Thing is -kov on russian place names is a lot like -ham, or -ton in English named placed. So if a game was set in a place called Luketon and a similar game was set in Linuston and both are set in anglo countries, then that wouldn't be that big of a thing at all.

  19. Me personally, find it a little sad to see that ifixit would 'reconsider' the partnership because of a similar product. Seems a little weird to be honest, not what i would expect of them.

  20. I would love to have guests from time to time like Riley on the full wan show. Makes it even better.

  21. 1:37:00
I would draw the line around 50-100M USD. That's enough to provide for yourself and all living descendants. Beyond that, the influence and power you gain from your wealth is not really justifyable in a liberal democracy.

And I want to highlight Dan's important point: There are just two classes: Those who need work and those who own enough to sustain themselves with capital gains.

  22. Hey, Snickers:
I am still me when I'm hungry.

  23. Where's Mr. Noki?

  24. Amazon are a bunch of crooks. They did the same sort of thing with Prime subscriptions. Even though I paid for 12 Months they decided before it ended that i had to watch ads and now pay extra for ad free even though I paid for twelve months it was add free at the start. They should not have been able to do that until subs had finished and a new one started. Fortunately I only had five weeks left so I canceled my subscription at the end and now they get nothing. They also did not send me any reminders that my subscription was due for renewal.

  25. Corporate Puffery, AKA Corporate Fraud.

  26. Imagine the heaps and heaps of content you could make Linus if you were starting a town!

  27. McMansions are all over the place down here in Texas. Lots of cheap land, and not enough good taste to go around.
Also, hell yeah, McMansion Hell is awesome.

  28. Riley they sad Puffery not Fluffery. That's something completely different.

  29. "WHAT?!… I'm leaving with dignity!"
    Frikn' gold Riley 😂
