Gaming headsets are truly the most mixed of bags. They are often overpriced and low quality. But still, gaming companies around the world are making TONS of them. From Razer’s Barracuda headsets, to Logitech’s Astro lineup, or even Steelseries and audiophile brands like Audeze it seems like everyone is trying to make it in the market. But it turns out NONE of those companies are the best sellers. Nope, that would be Turtle Beach, yes that Turtle Beach. So why the heck are you all buying the Recon 50 and Recon 70 Gaming Headsets? Let’s find out.
Thanks to for their testing!

They worked weal to hear your sponsor
When you say 3% leave reviews, do you mean text reviews? Because my ALEXA a couple months after purchase ask me what star rating I would give my purchase.
Do not, under any circumstance, buy turtle beach.
I don't know what the deal is with Koss, but I have never seen their headphones in a brick-and-mortar store. For something that manages he elusive good sound at a reasonable price, it seems weird.
i bought the hyper cloud x on ebay used for $30. that was over 6 years ago, only replaced the ear pads with generic from amazon for $12ish dollars. never had any problems and are still used more than 8 hours a day without any issues. buy quality headsets! just went back and looked, they were bought in 2017, best investment.
God, the mics dying gives me a flashback to 2004ish era when I swear I'd have to spring for a new mic every few months.
Can you guys do a test of the good old Koss Porta Pro? I know it’s not gaming headphones, but i just wanna know if I’m dumb for thinking they sound amazing. The way they let in sound from the environment is ofc a problem for some people, but for me, on a bicycle, it’s a feature.
im still rocking my PX21 Earforce from over 10 years ago
I don't know if you have done a recent review of what would be considered the top gaming headset that had great 3D sound for when playing games that have battle royale so you can better hear in another player is above, below, or to any of the other sides of you.
love your vids
Oh shoot, i have both of these! older gen (mid/late PS4 era) models, got them a few years back because i needed something and remembered my earforce X12's fondly for their featureset, the easy to use mic-mute moved me towards the 50 for my console/steam deck use, while the 70 was a gamble that i took for the potentially better-feeling earcups. i use the 50 daily, hell i watched this video with them on, and usually keep the 70 for roadtrips thanks to the sturdier headband, though the volume roller nowadays has spots where it cuts out audio to an earcup and the mics' housing now has a chip of plastic missing, exposing a bit of internal wiring. the 50 definitely held up better to the trials of time, but the 70 is otherwise still mostly fine in operation.
weirdly enough, both of mine came with a splitter! odd to see it removed from the packaging.
If nothing else, I'm satisfied with them. They've been good to me, they more than outlived their pricetags and I can still be heard crisply and clearly to my friends thanks to that mentioned great mic on the 50. (and yes, i am perpetually a bit quiet to new people!)
one day, i'll get a nice pair for myself. for now though? both these idiots were bought refurbished, i'm staying until they croak.
Just buy a $20 to $50 set of IEMS, and then buy a usb mic.
100% agree with hyper cloud. I have the same headset for more than 5years now.
I remember in old days of yt (2010ish) all my favorite youtubers making unboxing of the PX-21 and after that i never saw turtle beach again
As Linus says in the WAN Show. There is a minimum cost of creating a HDD.
It makes no difference if the HDD is 1 GB or 16 GB. There will be minimum costs.
If you're not an audio snob, the 50s are fine. I've had a pair for years to use occasionally when needed, still working fine to this day. Bought another 2 pairs not long ago for my nephews to game with. For £15, I don't expect Dolby Atmos level of quality. 😂
Let's not think about where those 6 million chunks of manufactured trash end up.
I find it interesting that it's never even considered that companies on amazon are buying reviews and inflating sales numbers. This isn't the only channel to completely ignore that possibility and IMO extreme likelihood.
Astros are waaay better
Had my recon 50s for 4 years and still going strong. However, I use an external mic and cable length is a shame.
because people dont understand tech, they just buy the cheapest stuff, or one that looks fancy, or worse, follow recomendations blindly. $25 is a lot for something that should cost like $5 if it had no brand.
Bring back the title screen splash text!
If you are really struggling at this price point the best choice is always going to be to get good ol Hyperx Cloud 2 there are tons of sales that make them very affordable and they will sound way better, be more comfortable and hold up way better overtime than any cheapo headset especially compared to these 40$ turtle beach ones.
Just buy the superluxes hd 681. and a cheap usb mic. MUCH MUCH better sound and better mic quality and sound.
A wired headset in 2024? Just no.
i mean these are very fragile but man, they're 20-30 bucks, can't expect miracles. These are the best for this price.
I remember my px 21, quite liked that headset. Had a decent mic aswell
Got a turtle beach headset once.. will never spend money on that crap again
Thanks god on my country u can just spend like 30 bucks for decent oem peripherals not something junk like this. But the minus is when u want overseas high end product like logi, hyperx or smth the price gonna skyrocketed tho
Great vid, but why use freedom units? Where are our loved metric units?
Can you test beyerdynamic MMX 300 PRO?
1:14 uh, that's not how it's pronounced, unless I'm getting trolled.
I have a pair of Logitech Pros. They are great, but to be honest I just use the inbuilt mic on the Duelsense (as do my mates, and the mic quality is surprisingly very good, even with speakers), and a pair of surround Sonos Ones with a Beam and Base. I do miss the footstep accuracy of headphones, but the surround speakers offer near the same level. I do prefer the sound from the headphones, but don't like having to wear them for hours, and to be honest, can't be assed to put them on 😂.
Have they fixed the quality issues? I have had them in the past and the cables thray so quick.
Can you do a steelseries headset video pleasee, I got the nova 7x a while back
