Now that the 9800X3D is out, we wanted to see what desktop CPU everyone’s actually buying these days. Spoiler: it’s AMD again, but this time it’s NOT a more budget-friendly option.

Am i the only one who went for the 9900x instead of the 9800xd lol
The disparity of intel vs AMD in Steam survey could be old hardware or it could be gaming laptops.
If a teen wants to game but still have a computer to do homework with. They will convince their parents to get a gaming Laptop. PC builder totally forget that Gaming Laptops are very popular. I think that Gaming Laptops sell a lot more than Prebuilt PCs. Vast majority of gaming laptops are Intel + Nvidia. This is where AMD lags behind. While there are some AMD cpus on laptops, AMD discrete graphics on a laptop is not so common.
upgraded last year from r5 2600 and rx570 to a r7 5700x and 4070ti, and its packing a punch 🙂
Any chance you might sell those CPU holders/cases on LTT Store?
Lol. Amazon ratings? Most of the ratings there are from bots and shill accounts.
Still running a 8700k🤷🏻♂️ I have upgraded my gpu, but just doesn’t seem worth it yet to upgrade my cpu. Thoughts?
Day 1 of asking Linus Tech Tips for a GPU this christmas
on the opposite end of cpus that sell good, I managed to grab a 9900x on sale for $380 back in november AND I got a $5 coupon just to leave a review since the sales were apparently that bad
Like the saying goes:
Sleep You Weep!
And intel didn't just sleep they hibernated.
I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and it's still a beast maybe i will upgrade in the future to 5800x3d or 5700x3d and my 2060 super is still a beast at both 1080p and 1440p so no need to upgrade for years also
Couldn't stop myself from LMAO at your earrings.
I have a 5900X. Not the newest or the best. But still pretty good, and does everything I could want (so far).
Old parts are still good to use and worth their cost (unless you need the blazing fast new stuff).
I legit bought 5700X3D yesterday lmao
I hate how AMD is mindlessly shilled by everyone now
DO NOT BUY AMD THE 3D CACHE AND 2 CCD'S MAKE YOUR FPS DROP
The 7800X3D was going for as low as ~300-340$, back in June/July (or so). It went back up after (surprise, surprise) the disappointing Zen 5 launch. 😕
But… why not an i5 14600k? For $230 it seems to beat ryzen in that price bracket by a bit, not to mention intel xmp, intel arc, and not as sensitive to ram timings. I'm looking to upgrade my 9600k like, in 2 weeks. Someone convince me right now on which way to go. I'm kind of an intel fanboy, but i'm more than willing to switch as long as I can pay 250 or less.
Rofl. Intro: no one is buying intel
Word from our sponsor: buy this intel hotness lol.
Whoops!
7800x3d is $550 in Sweden! AND sold out everywhere. I need one next year.
amd is on top of sales because if you are buying cpu alone, probably you will build your pc yourself. Please show stats for prebuilt machines
Love my intel CPUs can't find a reason to change, they're already too powerful for games
My first pc amd k1-2, then athlon 64, phanom 2 x6, amd fx , now ryzen 5500. Good cpu
Didn't explain why
It’s wild to see a premium CPU becoming the go-to choice for so many people.
This is because only gaming euthesiast are actively buying new parts, but they only cover small part of the global PC market. Hence why AMD is always recomended but still in the minority in terms of market share. The majority is the combine demographic of casuals and buisness users. This where Intel is dominant, since majority of buisness from small to big still trust Intel due to their hardware compatibility with most softwares and their historical brand image. Casuals usually don't pay attention gaming euthesiast recomendation and simply buy stuff based on brand power alone. Plus, casuals and most buisness rarely upgrade their pc less then 5 years. Since CPU/GPU is viewed to be a long investment and they rather wait until their PC break before upgrading. lol
Steam takes also into account pre-built, big brands and older machines (like mine) so it's not representative of newer build-your-pc buyers.
black friday i got a r9 7900x its cool but it runs hot
I bought an EPYC 9115 AMA
AMD can go AMD. I'll stick to my 14900KS.😊
Most people are not gaming on actual gaming computers they built themselves, most of it is on old laptops and optiplexes. Almost all of those are Intel, as well as Intel having big deals with prebuilt companies.
Holy hows the 7800x3D become so expensive, just bought mine once for like 350 euros. Well lucky me xD
I'd love to upgrade away from my AMD 2600 CPU but can't justify it right now when I also need to upgrade away from my 5600xt GPU just for RTX graphics. Not sure which is more important when I also have a Legion Go.
I built 2 machines recently, both with Asus extreme boards, top of the line cpus 13900ks and 7950x paired with 4090s and I’d still pick my Intel one every. single. time. The amd had quirks that made it a deal breaker for me like the bios never being able to be opened for some reason, my guess is early am5 adaptation, the system taking 3-5m to load due to constant memory training, and if disabled crashes constant, not to mention apps freezing for a few seconds when hwinfo opened or when a 3dmark benchmark was started. It isn’t a bad cpu it performed great other than that, but those quirks made me go with the Intel.
To be fair I still use an Intel CPU despite knowing the new AMD chips are much better. I just don't want to buy a new mobo and cpu right now
In Spain the Ryzen 7 9800X3D cost 900 € (tax included), is way overpriced compared to the US where it cost 480$ pre tax in microcenter, we're being robbed.
5:30 👎🏼 NZXT case in the build recommendation is a hard pass until they axe or hugely improve their rent a pc TOS.
I upgraded my Ryzen 7 3800x and 3070 for a 5700x3D and a 7900 XT and I couldn't be happier. This combination nukes everything I throw at it, even S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, went from 60 FPS on medium to 120 on Max settings.
Did anyone else notice that the cheap ram they showed the listing for on time stamp 5:25 was sold for $19.50 but also had $121.67 in shipping costs attached? Not exactly a good example of cheap DDR4.I understand that ram is pretty cheap for DDR4 but it’s sad to see simple mistakes made like that.
Been holding to my r5 3600 until october when i treat myself with a 5700x3d , will plan to hold on to it for a couple more years! am4 was the best platform of amd of all time for sure.
My 3600 now lives in my fiancee pc, and will be used at 1080p with my ex 2070 super for a while!
I was a proud and happy owner of a R5 3600 that still rocks on another computer and now a happy father of an 5800x3D. Great both for work and gaming!
A lots of operating gaming PCs(especially packaged solutions from OEMs) are still with Intel, so even a lot of DIY market turns to AMD, Intel still hold that level on Steam's stats. PC OEMs just started to increase AMD's portion in the recent quarters, so… we'll see.
i think it was a price thing…..
I don't even acknowledge intel cpus as real cpus. They are just trash. Maybe if they put extra value like it can do physics better than amd and make intel physics like nvidia rtx, then it may have a chance
I gambled on 1st gen ryzen at launch and currently still using the same system just upgraded to a ryzen 5 5600. My pc still is good for my use case to date. I'm so glad I went amd.
Free video idea for you in lieu of points discussed in this video: "Budget balance build showdown." Have a set budget +/- 10% of about $1500-$2000 and following MSRP build three, five, or even seven PCs with varying shifts of budget going to either the graphics card or the CPU keeping as much else (barring obviously MB and DRAM) as similar as possible.
