Linus’ old NAS is a hodgepodge of ancient drives, a very old CPU, and an extremely loud power supply. Also, it’s actually 2 servers. Now it’s finally time to replace them with awesome CD8 Enterprise drives from KIOXIA, a bunch of hard drives for even more storage, and a new power supply to quiet things down.

Where is alex… What happen to him even in latest bright monitor video he was upsend.
This was a really cool upgrade, old gear given a brand new lease on life. Love it.
You seem to have put the same link for 45drives and c-payne's adapter in the description. Can you please update that?
19:53 – Are they chefs?
I have no idea how much noise my 36-bay server is spitting out, but it's certainly nowhere near 70 dB(A).
So the GPU is transcoding wirelessly just being into the case? How as it been connected? 🥲
Help @Markiplier get his server running so he can get his movie and future projects finished faster! I'd love to see you help him since he's using refurbished SSDs and HDDs like you did. He would really appreciate the help!
Successfully lost an opportunity to promote LTT screwdriver at 6:10
Use gas exchange cooling.
That simple, just need some good control system to avoid condensation or a dehumidifier
Nothing crazy.
Or make a Oil coolant loop into a heat exchange.
Why do you even need a server in home? Its Literally called home for a reason. Try to leave the work back to office. Home a place to relax not doing office.
This stuff goes over my head, like for real im just a normie when it comes to the higher end of IT. BUT I like it when Linus says "Its fine for what I need" meaning you don't need to best and powerfull to acheive what you want. Which is great. He re-used an old machine and made it work for his purposes. ALSO the sound in that room is literal night and day. Omg what a difference.
bro, an a4000? 🤣 awesome
stay away from recertified drives. modern high cap are helium based. their lifetime is not only reduced by use but simple age.
over time these drives will start loosing helium and fail. so old of the shelf never used harddrives are as bad as used ones
thanks for you cause thousands peoples maybe they learn build own PC from watching your video including me i learn from you channel since 2014….
happy new year from indonesia
Im Big Fan
That Dbrand gag was amazing "better ltt store dbrand/4foot9" 🤣🤣
But when Pink/Green Linus coloured Noktua fans?
I dont know why would anyone need a server in their house. That's so much carbon footprint even considering the power supply to be coming from green energy.
I am not a de-growther, but a lot of this feels like plain overconsumption
i bought 4 x18 recert drives from SPD. 3 of the 4 were DOA had to send back 3 for refund. Will have to try again later. They were gonna replace the drives but ran out of stock….now I know where their supply went. Thanks Linus.
What shirt is that jake is wearing??
It is gonna be a sick surfer 🌊🏄🏼♂️
Bro hit up Atlas Survival Shelters and put a few shipping containers in the ground, it will be cooler and no noise.
Typo in the links unfortunately, 45 drives link is a duplicate of another one. As of 12/31/24.
150 dollars for a bag is crazy lmao
Happy New Year
When is he going to buy a robot to do this for him
$150 for a plain black bag that's designed really well, but still resembles some aliexpress bags I've seen
Linus:
– kind of coming together…
Jake:
"- This is like, honestly, maybe too nice for you!"
Linus:
– What?? 🤬
I'd still use a rear support on that gpu
Access hatch for the hdd would be good too
Maybe a sliding grill above the hdd so you can just move a lever to access them?
literally a hundred times less loud
Linus…..LOVE your content. I have learned so much over the past few months as a newbie to computer tech.
But it’s not “she’s” good or “she’s” working…… it’s “it’s” good or “it’s” working.
I’m a 52 year old guy. If I can learn the negativity of sexism and objectification then you can too 🤗 It doesn’t sound great dude
Apart from that, keep up the awesome work from a guy who loves your content!
I've thought about a server myself and a way to use the excess heat productively. Using it to contribute to central heating and basically pumping heat throughout the house during winters. But that's not useful for people in warmer climates. But everyone has a water heater.
And wouldn't you know it, Linus has his water heater right there in the same room. Not sure how viable it is in practice, though.
This RAID-Z stuff seems so last year. Better for Linus with the ability to add a drive at a time to the array, but I'd prefer dRAID. I have 8 dRAID vdevs with 16 drives each.
Watching this after the TV video and wondering if they were shot at the same time and if the plex server issues might have had to do with this upgrade and why they upgraded it
18:00 im sure somewhere in all the LTT footage you can find a linus joke tip about not putting in the screws
I have two Storinator XL60s. One is all HDDs, but the other was modified to support 128 SSDs.
I wondered how you'd lower the volume with Zippy PSUs. I guess you just swapped out the PSU entirely :(. Not something I can easily do in mine. I'm a bit disappointed 😥.
You created a pool with 3 raid Z1? You like to live on the edge.
This is too nice for you! I cant stop laughing.
I would love to see a heat pump added to the pool heat exchanger to up the efficiency of the system.
I milion $ to play COD !
