Linus stimming with the noodle thing 💙
26:00 I think bazzite is the way safer option when it comes to a simple steam setup but a clean work setup
That westaboo would have been a perfect use case for asking ChatGPT…
You underestimate and underuse LLMs by a lot.
SteamOS is great, but it's not a real OS. That's my biggest issue with it. Sure you can run desktop mode. But most apps aren't going to work. Since they do not have Linux versions. (Visual Studio, Photoshop, Affinity suite, etc.) Then you go to gaming and then you see that sure a lot of games work. But when a game does not work you're out of luck. When I first got my SteamDeck only a small amount of games from my library worked, so I had to install Windows ON MY STEAMDECK! To make those work. And running Windows on a SteamDeck isn't optimized at all.
Bottom line; I play games on my Windows PC and my Switch OLED (and Switch 2 next week). My SteamDeck is hardly used. Since it does not offer anything my Windows PC or Switch doesn't.
PewDiePie started with mint but then switched to arch like a real chad.
If you realy want a linux chalange again , use KDE i change over 3 Monts to Linux and i'm never go back to Win
Dear far traveler LLD, have you ever heared or tried anti-let-lag App, such as Timeshifter to minimize letlag impact? Saw this on Mickey Bustos channel and it decreased his jet lag.
I challenge the assertion by Linus at 5:20 "Microsoft Windows for Xbox is low-impact Windows for gaming"
The fact that OS updates rendered Minecraft Bedrock unstable for 4 player local, that they had to remove Kinect interface to free up system resources, the way they continually refactored the interface to make it less usable and filled with adverts, the fact that the Xbox still has to do a WiiU to load OG and 360 games.
Look at launch-day Xbox One Vs Xbox One Series X interfaces, the OG version has far less bloatb in the front and the back. Net profile a Series X and every single thing you do is being sent home to Microsoft.
Why?
Pierogi is already plural, no need for the “s” on the end. Pierog is the singular term. 2:30:46
I remember your review of Shadow of Mordor for Linux, it was pretty scathing. I worked on it and quite a few Linux games from that era 🙂
However we didn't take it to heart, our target market were people who were already running Linux, whereas your take was whether it was worth switching from Windows to Linux.
But it's great to see how things have turned around in the last 10 years!
2:36:51 two cars and three kids, actually
SteamOS might be good, but Linux itself for gaming is an utter nightmare for your average user who doesn’t want to type out spaghetti into a command line. Have we forgotten the utter nightmare Linus had when he tried to game on it? I have a Steam Deck, and I hope SteamOS and Proton continue to grow, but Windows is the one stop shop for everything for your average PC gamer.
Most people forget that they do not only run games. Occasionally you need some other programs. Even if you exclusively game, there are randomize, mod launcher, save game editor, custom patches, third party launcher and whatever else.
2:28:37 social credit, deducted
The number of games that just broke with new windows releases over the years that now work flawlessly in steamos is amazing.
I've been using a legit key of my Windows since windows 7 much better that way but I already paid for my license for a PRO ediditon and get bloated edition I have to manually debloat my OS each time I do a fresh install.
Microsoft should rewrite the Windows from the scratch and use a translation layer for older software like they did with ARM (i think its called Prism?) instead of backwards compatibility or if people want it get them an edition with backwards compatibility.
25:11 Linus, you keep saying you are waiting because you don't want to configure things. But something like bazzite offers pretty much exactly that. You have to tick one box in the steam settings to enable proton support for all games and then the experience is virtually identical to the steam deck.
fucken hell, ads? they everywhere
It feels like the meme of ironically calling every year ‘year of the Linux desktop’ is over. I don’t know what to do with myself.
Flying back from our Afghanistan deployment I had helped load all the luggage, and the Col and First Sgt in charge of our flight made sure that anyone who did the baggage loading got up front in the plane and each of us got a row of 5 seats all to ourselves.
We left Kyrgyzstan, I pulled out waffletop(military hoodie), made a pillow, laid down, and passed out so deeply, that apparently they called over the doctor to check if I was still alive because I didn't move for 10 hours until we landed in Ireland to refuel, I then got up, got some food from the pub they had there, and then passed out again until they woke me up to deplane in Alaska. Someone told me the doctor checked my pulse at one point because he didn't think I was breathing. I slept for like 18 hours on that flight.
