Also, Amex is one of the few credit cards that doesn't sucker you into endless debt: either you pay your monthly balance in full, or they cancel your card. No rolling interest fees… which means it's basically a debit card with a 30 day lag.

When we had an Amex we were getting 3% cashback on all purchases, and 5% back from grocery store and gas station purchases for the first 3 years with a 50K credit limit and a $99 yearly fee. At the end of 3 years they did a 'customer evaluation' and changed us to 1% cash back on all purchases and a $500 annual fee, so we cut it.
We bought our minivan on the Amex. ~$23,000 we paid it off at the end of the month, and got $700 bucks back on top of all their deals and discounts. With a family of 5 5% off at the Grocery store really adds up, especially with baby stuff. I don't think they liked how much they were paying us to be a customer, even though they have a higher rate they charge to vendors, Im pretty sure they lost money on us.

Visa and MasterCard are accepted pretty much everywhere that accepts cards. Amex and discover it's hit or miss weather the stores payment processor accepts them
Their fees are supposed to be higher also.

When I had read the steam article. I assumed it had to do with exchange rates and fees since it was currency not content that was being the issue. Back when keys for CS were basically currency people used to buy them for cheaper with foreign currency. Same with games too.

PayPal and Mastercard are primarily controlled by Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street Corp and JPMorgan Chase & Co. So it is basically all the too big to fail banks. The first three own or control a significant number shares in both companies but JPMorgan Chase & Co might only be invested in Mastercard, just not 100% sure. The first three, owning some shares and controlling millions of other shares through investment funds, are a factual connection between the two but I feel are less likely the real culprit. This leads me to think that the acquiring bank may be JPMorgan Chase & Co, but I can't confirm this at all. JPMorganChase is the biggest of the big four banks in the US and they have plenty of capital and they can absolutely refuse to do business with anyone at any time so JPMorganChase is the most likely suspect in all this. However, more research is needed.

If this is JPMorganChase refusing to do business with consumers, then it would likely be Jamie Dimon or Jennifer Piepszak (likely the next CEO) giving the orders. It is a possibility but more research needs to be done. Maybe someone else can dig up more information?

Paypal is not like Mastercard and Visa. You put your money to an account at PayPal and then you use their service to pay for the product you want to buy.
Mastercard and Visa just handle the transaction and doesn't store the money on their service.
So PayPal are the ones who removed the other currency support on Steam.
