I suspect a very significant percentage of Roblox revenue comes from predators and they know it.
This all to me sounds like there is only one result:
Youtube analytics aren't sharing accurate results (for whatever reason). That to me means you need a secondary system to compare to youtube's to see if your data matches theirs. Yes, there is a higher chance of your data being faulty, but if you can notice a consistent discrepancy between your data and theirs, that should tell you "something".
My recommendation:
Every wan show host a strawpoll on floatplane and outright ask "Which of the following videos have you watched recently". I know it's stupid and inefficient, but when you can't trust the main source of information, that's kinda what you gotta do.
For perspective, that's literally how the "Return Youtube Dislike" extension works, about pooling a sample size to get a more accurate ratio and then use the percentage to proportionalize it.
You better buy a plane ticket for Torvald´s wife
I think I (and quite a few others) misunderstood what's happened with the views after last week. We all thought it was just a general downturn, which seems to have generally been attributed to an oversaturation of Member-only videos (we do appreciate you addressing it anyway).
However, if everything else regarding video performance (likes, revenue, etc) has stayed exactly the same, then the only reasonable explanation is how views count has changed. Which, if it phases out "phantom views" amd ends up showing a more accurate marker of viewers, is a good thing.
I would confirm that my YouTube recommendation page is not serving me any videos I wouldn't watch all the way through. I haven't been served at least half of the new ltt videos in the past week and when I go to seek them out manually, YouTube nailed it. I didn't sit through the video all at once
I’d have to disagree with legacy uprising @13:26. Getting Steve Jobs on the show would be a massive win.
dont be cocky, quality of your videos is lowering with every day.. you forgot who your audience is, you are nowhere with videos nowdays. of course you are losing views, not to mention hypocritism, guess you forgot what you were saying few years ago and what you are doing today, especially with some of your team member. Something that was bad few years ago, now is fine and not so bad, just because the company paid you to review their item. You are losing credibility
Can we have Linus Van Pelt sitting with his blanket watching the other 2 Linus building computer?
I already have YouTube premium. I don’t want to become a “member” to LTT on YouTube. But the past few weeks I have been bombarded by those private videos that I can’t even watch. I got premium to escape from ads and contribute to LTT through it. But now it seems ads (for the membership to LTT through those restricted videos) are polluting my feed and usurping precious space from all my subscriptions. Please stop it. If I want exclusive LTT content I will subscribe to Floatplane.
I'm not being funny but your audience couldn't give a rats ass how well your videos perform. This data might be interesting to you, but we know why a shitty video bombs. We dont click on shit we are not interested in.
@ potential linus t. vid: how about an educational video? because the build will be different from what gamers want? although i am not sure if it will have enough differences for an entire video
@ views going down: i clicked on the channel to see which videos have less views and a swear i have never seen those vids coming up in my feed (except the too many monitor vid)
Something interesting is that my wife is getting more of your videos. She's not hard into tech, but does game and use a PC for art. Doesn't know the difference between a cpu and gpu, BUT she enjoys you videos! The little jokes included by the editors, the topics etc.
One thing she did have to ask quite a few times with the chromebook shopping was "what's the difference?" To which I could only assume the difference is that it's a laptop but with Android operating system? She still enjoyed it though.
50:00 I can kind of understand why people have a tendency to be slow to turn off subscription services for entertainment. With the state of the world, where everything seems to be crumbling, economies are faltering, and physical/social/job/emotional security seems precarious at best.. sometimes all you can really do is hope to be entertained and latch on to whatever does that for you in an attempt to fight off the persistent feelings of doom and dread.
Get Wendell involved! He'll know what'll work for stability and compile related things in combination with Linux.
I wonder if the decreased view count was YouTube cracking down on bot viewership. Disproportionate effect on channels could be bot ratios on individual channels, or YouTube testing that out while not trying to affect partners by keeping revenue constant while they tinker.
sorry i missed the live 🇺🇸 aye
maybe they just removed double views? So more than one view per user?
I’m sure that there is a technical reason why views overall are down, but please don’t discount that the quality has gone downhill overall. I’m a big LTT fan, but fear things are slipping back to the pre controversy levels of bad. Please review internally and drop members only content.
Worst car manufacturer feature in history:

I would love to hear about things he uses or has seen used computers and/or kernel for that aren't expected by more mainstream audience. Some strange set of circumstances use-cases or even design decisions that were planning way ahead of time and perhaps turned out to be exactly correct or, quite the opposite, the worst deicions possible that everyone agreed to.
Linus met Linus? Nice
I got an RX6600 for £227 and it came with 2 games (The Callisto Protocol and Dead Island 2) worth £100 in total. Was a bit tricky to redeem them on Linux and, annoyingly, Dead Island 2 was on Epic (it was exclusive to Epic for a year), but £127 for the budget king GPU at the time – bargain! So the B580 + BF6 deal isn't as rare as Linus/Luke claim.
if you ever do an 'all good news wan show' you need to wear those hats with propellers on them and giant rainbow lollipops
I don't think that Linus Torvalds would be quite happy if he knew that his interviews are gonna be behind a paywall
You should try and get John Romero or John Cormac for builds. A series of builds with classic tech nerds.
Heck, shoot the shot and send a message to Gates as well.
Gaben collab next?
I'm not feeling super sure you watched Highlander if you are so comfortable to meet him in person.
To the discussion around 46:00:
The problem with exclusives, floatplane, patreon is that EVERY CHANNEL want's extra MoNEy from the viewers. It feels like a huge scam. We are already dealing with the triple dip in advertisements… Ads from youtube, ads from your sponsors and than your ads for exclusives. Come on people NO, I'm not throwing my money away like that and my time is worth to much to waste it on 20% ads in every video. That's exactly the reason stopped watching old-fashioned TV… I have stopped watching half of the channels I like because of that
Resume 26:36 😊
The thing that is slowly pushing me away from this channel is all the "Members Only" content fulling up the video page.
YouTube recommended the desk video multiple times. Thumbnail looked nice but from the experienced slow pace and hardly any technical features of your last desk videos, I just ignored that one. Those videos were just time wasters compared to a diyperks video where I would instantly click another desk video again.
Linus needs an upgrade right? He's still on 3970x. Should have had him on for that build 😀
Everyone watch the "Revolution OS" documentary with Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman before this collab hits.
On YouTube Dropped Viewership, as a consumer, I've noticed that my app for about a month will not play as many videos in succession when autoplay is on and the screen is off e.g. sleeping time. I used to wake up in the morning and a video will still be playing. Now, I notice that videos stop playing 3-4 times per night. This might explain that YouTube know 'sleep viewers' are not engaged and have changed the app function to reflect this. This would explain the like % staying the same as a sleeping person won't click like. As for revenue, perhaps YouTube are softening the blow of lower viewership? Or reajusting rpm with the realisation of the lack of value of sleeping viewers.
Right there with ya on views. I have noticed there is a ceiling based on subs on how hard youtube suggests content. Since my views are all search based and only 3% are subscriber views my view increase is correlated every thousand subs and it literally goes up 500 views a day the week I hit a new 1000 milestone. How can everyday hit the same ballpark on 65% search and 30% suggested content. Doing this 5 years its really obvious when views are a straight line for the average till I hit that milestone every 3 months.
