Thanks so much to Mike and Char for letting me tour their van, it was so much fun!
ok, that's cool!
Two of my favorite channels!!
This guy should start a business helping tv people or companies go smart.
Their goes my weekend watching his videos!
Aqara honestly sucks. So unreliable.
I was expecting the meme of that smart home guy shouting home assistant 5:06
We are traveling in van over 4 years. I have pretty large smart home deployment at home. There's no way I would ever do it in the van. I just like simplicity. The cases where something decided to stop working in Homeassistant for no apparent reason and you have to spend your time to fix it is something I don't want to deal with on the road. Switch is switch. It will work without issues for years to come. In fact, I have pulled original smart system that came with the vehicle and replaced all with switches. Didn't have even one glitch over the years. It all looks cool at first glance, but no thank you.
At least you're using that Aqara pet feeder for something worthwhile. Dry kibble is junk food for cats and dogs.
Thank you.
Most smart homes don't run on 12 volt DC. I had a bluetooth obd dongle for my car but I noticed it was causing the cruise control to turn off unexpectedly while driving with it connected to the port under the steering wheel so I yanked it out to avoid causing performance issues.
I have subscribed to him but he goes way too fast and I don't think he goes into enough details. I like what he does but it takes a lot of rewatching his videos to figure out what he is doing.
I need this van
4:03 "mike added microcontrollers" what a line bruh 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 made me laugh too hard for it
If they are in Ontario Canada, how did they get around the fact it is illegal to live off grid here?
I love this series so much. I can't wait to see what smart homes you'll show us next!
sprinter.. yuk .. constant money pit
Mike's van is definitely one of our favorites when it comes to the smart automations! Our bus is packed full of smarts and connected to Home Assistant as well, but Mike has gone above and beyond with his unique automations and devices to aid in full time travel. We'll definitely be implementing some of his ideas around plumbing automations when we start our infrastructure redesign! We didn't get a chance to check out your van at Skoolie Swarm, so it's great to see this tour video and walkthrough!
I think the smart home world needs more collabs like this with nomadic travelers that are utilizing Home Assistant. It really shows the power of HA and how you can utilize it to help you save on power and increase efficiency. There's a whole different world out there apart from houses with tons of unique setups in vans, buses, RVs, and even boats!
Congrats on this collab guys, and great job on the video!
Awesome ❤❤❤❤❤
Smart Van Solver unconfirmed 🙁
You think that’s the most connected until you see what Everlanders have built over the years. Big J has been the gold standard for years!
woah
This is awesome.
it's fancy and cool, but i don't want it. 2 people that can live together in a van exist. but boy are they rare. my gf and i vaaaaacation in what i call a static van. REAL queen bed, 12v fridge by the door, and boxes that go to the picnic table. done. that thing is just too expensive and living in a van is for crazy people – I'm sure they'd agree.
These collabs get me every time! Just sub’d to smarthomesolver 😊
Are you going to be at the new Phoenix Micro Center?
I think it would be too small for two people 24/7. It's really well designed and there's enough space to live, but there's hardly any space for belongings.
Mike kicks ass with his HA van solutions!
I’m interested in which dongle he’s using with Zigbee2MQTT to get Aqara sensors to work reliably?
I recently switched to the Sonoff Dongle Max and that’s been great, but before that I had mixed experiences with Aqara sensors connected directly to HA.
Very cool. Having spent that much on the van already, they should look into the TESA Autolift system, that's four (or two) electromechanical legs that form a leveling system. Push button, be level – also, since it lifts the wheels off the ground, the van becomes 100% stable, like a building, since it stands on legs. Not free, obviously, but cheaper than the hydraulic options that are also out there.
Yeah, you definitely can’t find life with three kids
Two of my favorite channels made a video together!
Mike is ace, and so is that van!! Great video 🚐❤
