4:36 the reason why the hdmi port supports hdmi 2.1 bandwidth but not features is because AMD’s linux GPU drivers are OSS, but the HDMI forum has kept the software necessary for those 2.1 features closed source and behind strict licensing, so AMD can’t implement them while also keeping their drivers open source. I love the concept of the box- but I'm a little worried about optimization? Like how much would I be fiddling with settings to make a game run/ run smoothly with smooth frames and a good resolution? Don't get me wrong- I love fiddling with settings, but sometimes I just want everything to be ready and just game… Since it's something I do to relax after work/ when I'm stressed

As much as I like the steam deck it is not as foolproof as consoles to use. That is what makes consoles stand out, You buy a game and have a guarantee it is going to be playable no needing to fiddle with settings, no needing to do anything more technical than pressing download.

Microsoft is already taking a hit by raising their prices on consoles and subscriptions. This definitely won't be doing them any favors.
The lack of ability to upgrade the CPU and GPU in the Steam Machine makes it a hard no from me. I'd imagine it's going to be more expensive than current gen consoles, and will be outdated in about the same amount of time as a console, so spending more on a system I can't upgrade as needed just doesn't make sense when a console will likely be cheaper and faces the same lack of future-proofing. It seems like a great device, and the work that's going into compatibility of games, hardware, and software on Linux is fantastic. Just don't think this will be for me.
