IKEA don't even sell non-disposable batteries, they sell rebranded Eneloops for much cheaper 😂
57:03 – Dan shouting "wut?!" off mic here is hilarious. And I share his pain.
Please dont rob us poor plebs of the full uncircumcised video
I think i'd be more excited about the Steam Machine if it were more powerful. It's going to be significantly less powerful than my current PC, so there's no point in it for me. The Frame? Well if it's priced anything like the Index, not a chance. Unless it's the only way to play HLX.
6:38 does apple m1 qualify as well?
rechargeable AA batteries are the best things ever, IKEA has actually stopped selling alkalines for rechargeables, and they're great!
5 for 4 batteries is a perfectly fine price compared to every alkaline from duracell which on the lowest I've seen costs 10 for 10 batteries
Looking at the Steam Machine specs I think $800 is the most I would think is resonable. Ideally it would be $700. Like looking at guys like Minis forum you're getting a lot of mini PC for $1000-1200 so for me the price gap needs to match the performance gap or I'll feel more compelled to go with Minis Forum.
Responding to the naming rant
iPad is probably the best example (especially from the 5th to 9th gen)
They all look the same and unlike the iPhone where there’s some (albeit obscure way to figure it out) the numbers don’t mean anything since they look the same
In the case of iPhones your best bet is camera bumps and color and that’s if you know what the “showcase” color for each generation is since white/silver is the worst way and Apple doesn’t prioritize the iconic color to symbolize a device family
The only way I would be able to tell apart an iPad Pro (faceID) and a 10th gen without going into settings or trying to find a model number is the connector dots on the back and the pencil dock on the side of they were the same color
Over time yes the SEO will favor steam controller 2 but for a period of who knows how long you’re going to have 2 very different controllers sharing the same name
Jenson vibes from Linus.
The more you spend. The more you save 😂
Breaking: Valve singlehandedly making news good for the first time since 2019
Linus' rant about the Steam Controller naming is so spot on.
I have the old one and already have seen search results get worse due to this.
43:00 to luke's point, the only people who would even know that the steam machine is a thing. Are people who would pirate windows and go through the steps that he talks about
1:57:06 or make a "pay it forward discount" purchase, where people can buy vouchers that will be randomly assigned to other people's purchases

The AA battery made me happy when I saw it actually.
I have old phones, my 2 last laptops, and a few mice, my old vive controllers, and much more – and honestly each of them could be already entirely broken by now because I left them alone for months on 0%.
AA just guarantees infinite lifetime.
And yea I also did the charge-play-charge-play dance. Also after the Vive controllers ran out after 5 hours of play or so. Would have love to just at max run over to the supermarket and grab a few AAs.
People who buy disposable batteries instead of rechargeable batteries also like buying subscriptions instead of one time payment.
Dollar Tree batteries are more than enough for people without kids.

57:03 The timing on that 'What' was S+ tier 😂
Linus your rant about AA/AAA is stupid, like you later admitted; the NIMH batteries have a lower voltage and a lot of devices don’t work well with or at all with them… and find that a lot of the rechargeable batteries don’t last nearly as much as claimed. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I am so interested in the valve products, I need to know what their price will be, then I can finally tell myself they're too expensive!
Calling it "Steam Controller" again is stupid, but even if they called it "Steam Controller 2", how will you find information about the old one? If you search for <Steam Controller>, you'll eventually get results for whichever the newest one is. Maybe you can try searching <Steam Controller 1>, but that's not going to match old articles because nobody was calling it that when it came out. Maybe searching <Steam Controller -"Steam Controller 2"> would work, but at that point you might as well just limit the search by a date range, and then it doesn't really matter what the new one is called.
Though this is only a problem for the first one; there would be no issue searching for "Steam Controller 2" vs. "Steam Controller 3" in the future.
I wouldn't pay that much for a little box that to me needs more vram, at least 12gb, this is virtual reality and what the hell, no ssd, so you'd need an ssd or external drive to save your games or are players to rely on the steam cloud for their saves? I'd not pay more than $250 for something with those specs.
Wait, Gabe and Linus T. would be a very good friend. IIRC Linus also likes to do scuba dive!
Disposable batteries are just slightly annoying, but they were slightly annoying for long enough that I eventually changed them out. But good rechargeable batteries are kind of hard to find, so dispisable seem more reliable in a sense. I had some Varta AA that discharged very quickly after a few cycles for example. Trying IKEA now.
Biggest importance since the first Xbox?

Light is not RF it is EMF, and RF is EMF too
they are great 1.5 V rechargeable batteries for applications that don’t work great with standard nimh batteries. Need a special charger but might be worth it.
Having kids and a very high consumption of aa's and aaa's, I bought a shit-ton of rechargeables. Upon Linus's advice many many years ago, I spent like 60 or 70 Euros for a bulks pack of rechargeables. This was at a time when Ikea rechargeables had the same or similar quality of eneloops. One of my best household investments.
You can't talk like that… remember you live in Canada‼️
Tom at MLiD has repeatedly said the the Steamdeck custom silicon was made for MS for a surface device but then MS went with Intel and so had this design lying around. That means that Valve just grabs whatever is cheapest and lying around and uses that and thinking that the Steamdeck custom silicon was paid for by Valve is where Linus' thinking goes wrong
You can not match many ppl alive to the significance of Linus Torvalds! He is part of the IT Pantheon! Together with Ada Lovelace, Konrad Zuse, Alan Turing, John Neumann, Grace Hopper, Donald Knuth, Tim Berners-Lee, Margarete Hamilton.
Linus you need to update your knowledge on rechargeable batteries.
Yes! Give us the long video please? You should buy a usage license for Princes of the Universe by Queen and use it as part of the intro.
the industrial revolution was a disaster for humanity
Luke: mom can we have techlinus's signature on my FP-sign? Linus: no we have techlinus's signature at hame

How is nobody talking about the moth flying round the studio?
I think the Steam Machine is about a new PC baseline spec rather than a full console play
Luke is somewhat mistaken about Linux’s impact on macOS. macOS comes from NeXTSTEP, which was built on BSD, which in turn descends directly from the original UNIX. Unlike Linux — which is a Unix-like system that imitates UNIX behaviour — macOS is a Unix-certified OS with an actual lineage tracing back to the original UNIX. The influence here runs from UNIX to both macOS and Linux, not from Linux to macOS.
4 and a half hours?! Wow! I'm definitely gonna need the help of the timestamps when it comes.
I am very unlikely to buy the steam machine over 700, even 700 is oof maybe not
1:26:26 i will watch the Spielberg cut of this, I will also watch the 25 min. Fingers crossed for Spielberg
Elijah Luke Linus 😅
Assuming Linus will watch the video, Luke should just add a message at the end that he couldn't be there
Think the Steam Frame is doing some interesting things, but I'm not sure its enough to upgrade from the Quest 3 for the cost with the resolution.
There might be room for improvement since the optics are a removeable piece so maybe they will make a drop in higher resolution piece later. Also the monochrome passthrough kinda sucks. I'm tempted but not sure if its enough when I've been considering something like the far higher resolution headsets like the crystal super oled or the meganex.
I never thought AA batteries would be the hill Linus dies on…. I had loads, all they are good for is leaking and being thrown away!
