So over the life time it will pay out 100 million + 10 million initial investment. But during this time inflation happens. So since 2000 we have more or less doubled the cost of everything, so give it another 20-25 years, Alphabets is not really paying you 10 million a year, but 5 million due to that inflation.

For the seller of the investment, it becomes a safer bet. Especially from this type of company. Meaning pensions and the like can buy it because they don't need a gaurenteed return that is high, just higher than inflation. Hence a lot of city/state/provincial bonds are so important (and why the mortgage bonds that crashed the market in 2008 were important), they seem safe.
