Huge thanks to Joel and his family for letting me tour their smart home!
I linked to his GitHub, website, and everything else in the description.
Ok so he's rich rich
The ceiling boards on the patio and entrance going different directions triggered my OCD
What sound machine is he using for the baby?
it seems it is full of hubs connected to homeassistant….
awesome!!
How do you set up the lights to change color depending on the brightness as seen at 13:48? Would love that for my Philips Hue setup
Thanks for making this. I want good reasons to pursue my hobby of smarthome tech and I want it to be bullet proof. Too many I think can end up filled with esoteric tech that becomes defunct and can't be easily replaced.
The control and power for the shades is really nicely done. Also the bulbs.
I would love to know what brand they are. Hopefully he lists them on his website 🙂
Kindle can be gaolbroken and will then show real time data. That may be helpful for some to investigate.
I wish they’d make larger e-ink displays
Kids are going to grow up so lazy
The server rack would be better with a microswitch than a smart switch, because one of the main reasons you will be going in there is to fix an issue with a computer, but if you have a computer issue it might be the one that controls the smart lights.
actual proper useful SMART HOME without unnecessary 1000000+ automations and unnecessary unusuable devices
As always, too cool!!! Thank you!
You're killing me…. I mean my bank account….
Add OpenClaw to this and you've got a home manager 😂
Is there a link to the shades? Didn't see it in the description
Scripted??? Unifi & Apple TV PiP??? sounds like something i want to look into!
How do you get the audio clips sent to another API to identify the birds? I’d like to be able to do this with my camera system but to identify other “words of interest” in commercial settings.
Videos like these where I wish I could super like a video this guy thought of everything
Really smart ideas, would’ve loved to learn more about the gardening automations as well.
Honestly I think if I was starting from zero building a house all of the door contact sensors would be wired
Just kidding. No one cares about the feelings of other animals. 😛
I've only used Phillips Hue bulbs and Lutron for smart lights so I don't have any experiences with cheaper unreliable or hard to use light controls. My 91 year old grandma has been using the Phillips Hue dimmer remote and Alexa control for years and she's not a tech person. Hue has local control. With about 35 Hue devices between my house and my parent's probably 2/3 bulbs have died in 7 years or so. Controls always work fast.
The e-Ink screen is a great use. I find that sensors and such often go off line in my network and I have no idea until some automation doesn't run. Having a way to display relevant content which doesn't look rely on a tablet/app is great for non-techie people.
Which company are the shades from? And maybe what's the model name if it has one?
I love the ideas but alot of the sensors are all battery and I am not willing to replace them. I am excited for OTA Power delivery technology advances so that home automation doesn't become a battery lifespan management.
1:32. What is this nonsense? Does someone need DNS lessons? LOL
Some really cool stuff. Is there any additional into on the shades? Very cool.
the only thing that makes me sad by seeing your videos is that there is soo many things that i can't buy by only living in brazil
