699-799€ in my country, thats a bit much for a machine that only offers 256-512gb imo, I'll stick to my free x280 for a little longer, but to each their own.
I get that Apple is better at managing memory than Google and Microslop, but I still wouldn't tell anyone to buy a device with 8GB of RAM. A phone, perhaps, would do fine with 8GB. Just be sure to block those ads everywhere that will eat it up. My gut feeling is that Apple users are not Firefox users.
Lack off backlit keyboard is deal-breaker for me. How much did they save leaving that out 50c? The rest I could live with. User upgradeable storage like a slot for an NVME would have been easy for them.
I live in Europe and I've been an Apple hater for years, but due to increasing prices of other tech company products in past 5 years, difference between Apple products and others is not as it used to be. Also after switch to M-series CPUs there are NONE, not a single laptop, that could beat Macbooks now. ARM laptops are still miles away from what Apple has to offer.
As for phones we could debate that there are fair comapetitors like PIxels or Galaxies then when it comes to tablets, watches and laptops there is no competition for them.

The Macbook Neo is absolutely the hardware they would've used to make a current generation non-Air iPad. The iPad Air M4 is a nicer deal for RAM, would be great if it had macOS.
You have lost credibility in my eyes by claiming that sub $500 Windows laptops have failed. Apple has no excuse not to put 16gb of RAM and a 512GB SSD in the base model. The NEO would make a perfect portable gaming machine if it had the 16Gb of RAM that all reviews of gaming on Apple Silicon Macs have shown to be needed.
the new apple xdr display genuinely looks really good, i think apples finally gotten the memo that you cant charge $5k+ anymore and get away with it without severe consumer backlash. unless its the mac pro for some reason, why do people STILL buy that thing
i think the people complaining about the a18 chip haven't looked at what you get in a $600 windows laptop. low end raptor lake galore, and if you're very lucky, maybe zen 4 on a big discount. the a18, despite being a phone processor technically, still keeps up in single core, which is the most important on entry level devices, it MOPS THE FLOOR with older x86 chips in terms of battery life and, while i haven't looked too much into it, i'm willing to bet it's not even that much worse in terms of graphics performance, at least when compared to iris xe graphics.
of course, for that price, you can get much more powerful stuff on the used market, but that's just an entirely different conversation. for performance per $, no question, but apple's software support and warranty alone make the neo vastly more attractive to the 90% of customers that just want a well built device that works well enough for a long time. honestly love what apple's doing, hope the other laptop manufacturers copy them the one time it would benefit the consumer.

It shows that Linus has millions, 3300 dollars for a display, sure, no problem right? Who cares how many thousands it cost and how pathetically small it is, I mean 5K on 27 inches????? Seriously? You can't even use that resolution in such a small form factor.
