We went down to NASA to learn about how air works! Just how much distance does your fan really need before you’ve ruined it’s performance? Turns out it’s pretty complicated.

Comments

  1. So a pull config for radiators is very bad for the airflow than? Or what is the take away for that ?

  2. at 7:39 there is one random blue pixel on the guys forehead

  3. This is the prelude to next years April Fools "I bought a ROCKETSHIP"

  4. That zero flow joke had me laughing way too hard!
    😂

  5. Waiting for Linus to buy a rocket

  6. i still feel that having more then casing fans is just bull and non sense

  7. The low video bitrate reminds of what they were talking about on the wan show! 🫩 🌌

  8. Next video we see is I went to space to test gaming performance in zero G! 😅 🫩 🌕🌌

  9. 9:40 i feel like i would like to know why having a tiny plate makes no difference to having a big plate in front of the fan

  10. I do wish there had been something more to this video. Thorough and good science is usually boring and y'all did good at not making it so boring, but I'm kinda left wanting for something more.

  11. This was so sick!

  12. When Did 'Tech Tips' Become 'Science With Linus!' 😜

  13. Seriously….. you guys collaborated with NASA and majority of it is a FP exclusive? Disappointed.

  14. 10:00 shitty example the case has thick vents at the bottom for the vans

  15. linus : we got good flow dawg , good flow .

  16. comment. number 1200

  17. In what I tested, you need 2cm at minimum to have proper space for a fan intake.

  18. Holly molly! Your camera or something has a dead pixel on top right half. I tought my monitor is going bad!

  19. i think your cameras got some laser pixel death and it scared the crap out of me and my oled panel

  20. Aaaah!

Now , we can get space grade cpu and gpu ! From linus 😅

  21. Dude bro is way too comfortable by the spherical tank farm those things are full of things that can kill you fast

  22. Linus: I'm in your face now! 😂

  23. Am I crazy or there is a dead pixel on your camera at https://youtu.be/caYwWR5eHl4?t=807

  24. FANS ARE FLAT!

  25. NASA: We need more FANs…
    LINUS: Hold my bear

  26. Finally NASA has more FANs!

  27. Most useful thing NASA has done in 20 years!

  28. NASA: Ok, people are not interested about us floating around the moon and not landing… We need someone that have a lot of FANs for this!
    LIINUUUUUSS

  29. This was neat. More like this please 🙂

  30. 9:00 Bruh i felt this like 14 years ago as a "10 year old cleaning the family pc with dad" i remember asking my dad why is the fan moving the air to the sides instead of forward.. he said the case front panel blocked the flow making it do that.. and now i finally know why

  31. Awesome stuff. Always wish there was more clips with the engineers themselves, but that's probably in floatplane.

  32. And that is why linus, back in the althon XP days, people liquid cooling discovered that you really should place your radiator fans at about 2 cms from the radiator, in extraction, with sealed mask between the fans and the radiator.. i am very puzzled by how none of the youtubers i see including seasoned one NEVER mention this nor tested it

  33. 8:50 linus just using nasa to give away noctua trade secrets 😂

  34. Hypersonic Jets?

    I'm listening.

Challenge: Someone find me a hypersonic jet that you can see a real picture of

    😉

  35. Speaking of dead pixels, your camera used for recording has at least 3 that i count at 7:32. One in center black, 1 in right top black/metal, 1 blue on Dr's face. Cannot unsee.

  36. Why hasn't anyone ever made fan blades that taper in width to compensate and balance air flow closer to the center on the fan. This would probably improve a fans efficiency when designed to have an obstruction in front of it. Hmmm

  37. What a video 🎉

  38. Instead of just placing a glass panel at the front, wouldn’t it make more sense to enclose or cover the gaps along the edges? Most PC cases with glass fronts don’t leave it fully open they usually have about a half inch vent or opening along the sides for airflow. Sorry for bad English not my first language

  39. In the top right fourth of the screen you guys have a blue and white pixel from around 6:47 for all of the dark footage which made me I think I had dead pixels.
Thanks for the micro heart attack!

  40. At this point the segue bit makes me turn off videos, Been subbed since you guys had under 10k subs. It's really, really painful to watch, so I just don't now.

  41. Extra, Extra, Air flow blocked by walls, read all about it!

  42. just finished the intro… rule of thumb I've always used is that your computer should be at least as far from the wall as the diameter of your fan… figure this will make sure I never have problems
