Is the AI bubble getting ready to burst? We’re seeing major spending cuts at OpenAI, Mass Layoffs at Oracle, and ludicrous valuations for companies that don’t have the revenues to back those values up, and DDR5 prices are dropping around the world. It’s starting to look like the RAM crisis won’t last forever.

Think this is temp drop in a long term issue. A number of firms have now suspended memory card orders and shipments because of fab capacity issues as well. It's a very long term problem.
Not really
We might get a shortage due the Iran War tho. Fabs need helium.
great video, loved this perspective.

Thank God you can fly over those cracks with your private jet.
How's that "free" private jet going for ya?
I think the passage about business customers at the 5min mark is not really representing the state of the industry right now. At my company, the engineers were told that "no line of code should be written by hand" going forward. I've heard the same from other companies. The industry is accruing heaps of tech debt right now and most of these AI-first companies are going to burn themselves out once the users notice the issues that come when you put quantity over quality.
Well their over inflation makes a lot of sense when you realize a lot of companies would love to slash costs by replacing most of their workforce with AI. So its in their best interest to keep it afloat.
Dont
Dont give me hope
I think the recent memory price decreases is more about market pressure. Nobody can afford the RAM at the ridiculous prices they were asking, so demand plummeted. So the prices decreased to match the decrease in demand.
I have a feeling Sam will be out and the OpenClaw guy will be in.
openai might be the first one to collapse
This is an embarrassing video for Linus.
Something scary is that to all appearances, if a single AI company were to receive ALL of the AI revenues, they would still not be profitable on an operating basis.
5:18 – And never will be, as LLM is not AI in anyway, calling LLM an "AI" is just false marketing tactic
Remember, no Crucial.
Retail investors are going to be burned
Don't worry, the war in Iran has blocked about 30% of worlds helium supply, which is critical to chip production in asia. Fabs will have to lower production capacity and we all know what it means to prices.
Maybe… Instead of taking all the computer components, they could do what the USAF did. They needed a super computer so they MacGyver'd a bunch of PS3's into what they called "The Condor Cluster". It cost them around $2M which was a FRACTION of the cost had they made it from off the shelf components.
The revenue comparison with Google and Facebook is funny – those companies were making incredible profits before IPO, and they mostly went public because their shareholder count and asset size was starting to approach SEC regulations, and to give those early investors and employees a cashout. But the companies were themselves completely self-sustaining without any particular accounting shenanigans.
Can you be just a little spicier, politically? You can say "because of the Trump Administration" instead of "code orange" lmao
Maybe the trend will continue, hope this video ages well
I wonder is there true a AI use the same ram as we a pc user
