wrong wrong. spam is totally a computer term early borrowing from the junk mail in a real life mailbox. there was a anti spam laws. special postal advertisement mail. a category the post office used to charge for.

Huh, Iβve always had this question in my head of why spam (email or repeat of stuff) shared the name of the food. Wasnt sure which came first or why, but never bothered to look it up. Interesting trivia here π
Now this may just be an aprophical origin story but… I heard that during one of the great wars spam was a very common meal for soldiers being shelf stable, ready to eat from the can and easy to transport so it was pretty good for that kind of thing, and say first it was actually welcomed by the soldiers.
But as you can imagine, people got bored of it and as time passed by and the only thing available was spam… Then you come back from the war and your mail of full of advertisements your didn't ask for… And people started calling that spam

An important step in the history of events which you missed was that in the early early days of the internet, when most forms of communication was via relay chats, occasionally people would repeat the message "spam" ad-nausea, in reference to the python sketch, with the effect of breaking the chatroom, as no-one could follow an active conversation.
Imagine trying to have a discussion with other randoms in a popular streamer's chat whilst the streamer accidentally alt-tabs to a PH window mid gaming session.
