same happened. when i copy big file, it stopped, turned out windows stopped nvme for a bit time and whole computer crashed. it never happened again. but using cmd to move file with no processing. later i made gui for it, i cant type in cmd for basic task.
It also depends on how progress is calculated! Total data% is one way, complete /number of files is also an option, and some method between. Many small files may move differently than one big one, so the total data option looks good for the big one but might play less nicely with the many repeated operations of the small files.
I do prefer that it isnt time based. I like to know how much of each step is done

This all started back in the early days when computer freezing and crashes were common enough to almost need it to know the computer didn't freeze.
Sometimes the underlying apis used by a gui don't always provide a way to even measure progress
