"saving people from closed ecosystems"?? Valve… the makers of steam… the always-online DRM, remotely disable-able platform?
Also, does Linus think this is first general purpose PC ever released?! Did LTT just forget literally decades of computers exist?
Man I really don't get how Valve convinced the world that if they do something it's automatically the best and no one's ever done it before. It's like Apple, but at least some people dislike Apple enough to point out their BS.

Every PS have a day no new games are made, PS5 is no exception. Same with other consoles.
For PC as long you can run it, you can play it. Also, PC is not limited to games.
its strange, the Steam Machine will sell out, no doubt but it will also be DOA. Feels like gaming is turning into a hobby that can only be enjoyed by financially better-off people. Genuinely a sad day for gamers

At this price point, they eliminated at least 50% of the consumer base. This will be a niche product

A bummer. I would have bought it for 800 but not for 1k. Maybe when RAM Price sinks Ill get one. I love my steam deck so I can imagine replacing my PS5 with this but lets see. Maybe there will be a updated version when PS6 releases and than I can decide to get a PS5 or the steam mashine 🙂

For this price and quality, it is so bad. I think if they made a proper PC in this box and sold it for 2.3k, at least then it would be a good PC in an interesting Steam shell, rather than the overly expensive, cheap PC they sell now.

"latest titles": shows nearly 6 year old game. ik, that it's cyberpunk and it will go down as one of the most demanding and graphically accurate games, but still.

Cyberpunk continues to be the badly-optimised game people still use for benchmarking for some reason.
I remember saying this would need to cost around 499€ to be good, but it costs 1k LOL this is just so bad.
i think it isnt that great but it can be for the right people but if it would have been around 700 or so maybe 800 with a controller it might have been something more people would have got and what is going to hurt it the most is when the price goes up even more in 6 months to a year
yay this is going to be a great emulation box
I would rather continue playing on my asus zephyrus in normal quality and frame rate than blow more than 1k on some cheap pc in a box.

steamOS is still a pile of cr4p … especially for games outside Steam economy but even inside many new and old games just doesnt run on steamOS
My volume is ALWAYS low when using headset in steam… Always. Max volume is usually just enough.
