nixos is superior it is the distro of all time
Dang I switched from windows to Garuda back when the deck first came out. Haven't really felt the need to distro hop so yeah. Maybe one day I'll try a different distro.
Ubuntu is all you need
it would be a nice video to have a few people which never used linux before and are not techy at all to select a distro and just see what the experience looks like. i think this would highlight what the problems are for newbies because i tried it too and had soooooooooo many questions that i was kinda overwhelmed.
I tried bazzite yesterday in a SSD hooked to my laptop with a usb to sata adaptor. It is a dirty cheap 500Gb Chinese generic SSD. Omg it is stupidly easy…. Intel cpu and Nvidia GPU. Plug and play basically. I just installed the 2 games I play most (DayZ and 7 days to die) and the experience was almost flawless
CachyOS is king.

I dont understand why you are skipping more popular and stable distros like debian or ubuntu. They are on the market for many years with big teams fixing bugs
I tried again tonight (Ubuntu this time, simplest Linux there is, right?) and after fighting with it for over 7 hours, I'm restoring a Windows system image right now.
Fucking slow, and 'Satisfactory' on Steam (which is supposed to have a Platinum proton rating) needed hours to render Vulkan shaders – I gave up at 36% after 45 minutes- and crashed Steam at every attempt until custom launcher arguments were added.
i5 11th gen, RTX 3050.
Windows just works. Linux very much does not.
This makes 4 attempts in 3 years, and I've yet to find a distro that works for me & my games, even the fucking Steam games.
If I ever quit gaming, I might be able to make Linux work.
OR OR OR make a website where I can test drive a fresh install of all of them.

After Windows 11 turned Windows into Macroslop, I recently installed CachyOS on my Microsoft (👀) Surface Pro 7:
– battery life almost tripled!
– idle RAM use went down by 2.2 GB!
– reaction time drastically reduced
– far smoother UX, almost as if 120 Hz
– made it look like a "fresher Windows 11"
– gaming fps are basically identical
Like, what the EFF are you even doing, Microsoft!? Never turning back.

my experiance ,don't use debian based os for gaming I ran into issues installing winetricks as debian uses old repository. I switched to nobara and while there are some quirks with wayland it runs great because its fedora based.
this my experience after seven months of committing to linux.
debain has good uses for servers and docker use, pika is debian but uses its own repository and is more up to date

What about display protocols like x11 and wayland. It definitely impacts fps.

You should've covered Mint for those who want a all purpose machine that also games. I'd love to know what's left on the table by using Mint instead of a gaming oriented distro.
Which one? Well… none, and you should just make your own distro without POSIX standards but obeying your custom folders layout while making the kernel replaceable, so it's only a name and NOT a dependency (even if ABI differs between linux and BSD / Minix / others).
Or… you can just copy some distro, rename to make it "yours" and call it a day, because that's how linux distros – supposedly – work.
For years, I cannot commit to a distro. I have only committed to Plasma (KDE) desktop.
