Before NVIDIA became all about AI this and AI that, they had the hearts and minds of gamers all over the world captivated by the release of what could be considered the greatest GPU of all time. The 1080 was truly ahead of its time, dominating the market in just about every way. But does it still hold up 10 years later?

  1. 1070 to 3080 gang here thanks to MemoryExpress (BC/Canada retailer) who enforced strict gamers-only policies, would not take web orders, and at this point I'm genuinely looking at my 3080 being another 10 year card. My friend bought a 5080 3 weeks ago and it has already gone up $300usd in that time. (and his 3080 resale has also gone up, obviously not that much). May we live in interesting times indeed.

  2. Funny how insistent he is on how limited the 1080s performance is yet advocates the steam machine which offers the same performance ignoring ray tracing and upscaling of course

  3. Just recently I was thinking about 1080ti…. Long live the king

  4. I am still advocating for 720p gaming.
The sheer amount of performance I get at that resolution is worth it.

  5. The real legend is 980Ti that still used for some AI and all modern games like Pragmata and etc at max graphics.

  6. Every year I ask myself if its time to upgrade and every year I have found that it hasn't been worth it yet (with most of my games running just fine still and I've even had some instances where it runs better then newer cards on some titles that where known for being unstable at launch). So I'm still running a GTX 1080

  7. I finally replaced my EVGA (RIP) 1080 FTW2 recently, and even then, the only reason I did was because I couldn't play Forza Horizon 6. It ran well enough on the 1080 (60-70 FPS at medium settings everywhere other than Tokyo), but wasn't stable at all, and kept crashing (my longest time before crashing was about 2 hours)

Other than Forza, and not including games that explicitly require ray-tracing support (Doom: the Dark Ages, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition being the only examples I know of), I haven't come across any games that it couldn't run (including Starfield and Alan Wake II from your examples at 0:59), though some needed to be set to all low settings to be playable (Monster Hunter Wilds being the main example that I played)

Thanks to a couple friends helping out, I upgraded to a 5080, and if it lasts even two thirds as long as the 1080 did, I think I'll be happy

EDIT: I wouldn't even be surprised if the 1080 would've been good for at least a few more years if Nvidia kept driver support for it

  8. 7:47 Wait, isn't that melody coming from the Neon Genesis Evangelion OST's "MARKING TIME, WAITING FOR DEATH"?
I mean, good detail and an editor of culture, if you ask me. 🤌

  9. Still rocking 3930K and Dual GTX 980 classifieds.. Not gonna lie.. I cant do DirectX 12/Windows 11. But on Windows 7, theres no game I cant destroy. Witcher 3? BF4? Zero issue. I do love this rig, ive had it since just before BF4. Its only now that Im really starting too feel like its time to do it again. Just wish Intel still had a HEDT platform that was useful for gaming. I would LOVE to see a Rampage 7 Extreme on a modern intel HEDT platform. My rig is on a Rampage 4, X79.

  10. Random Eva BGM at https://youtu.be/ea3EvwkW_28?t=466 (probable EM13 from the 1.0 OST). That's not 'sad' music, that's 'you're about to have a spectacularly bad time' music.

  11. What about cs 2 and valorant and other fps games?

  12. We can certainly already see how next gen games are running pretty bad on current gen hardware in like gears e day which is certainly being made with next gen hardware in mind considering how some of the settings definitely are not made for any current gen hardware. Also considering the leaks of how well some next gen hardware is gonna perform compared to the current gen stuff.

  13. I just got my old PC back today and its exactly the Intel rig you tested… planning on turning it into a streaming PC running linux

  14. The Doc Hudson of GPUs

  15. My 1080 died last week😢 best card ever

  16. you should not put 1080 together with 1080ti. 1080 ti was god tier is value, performance uplift and future proofing.
    1080 was… fine.

  17. The legendary 8700k makes an appearance !

  18. i only upgraded my 1080 to a used 4070 super because i upgraded my monitor to that ultrawide alienware oled. the msrp on 3000 and 4000 series was insane and i found a sucker that was selling his 4070 when 5000 series was announced

  19. I guess my twin EVTA GTX 780's water cooled are over now 😢

  20. Yea my 1080 is still stronk.

  21. What do you think will replace the Legendary 1080 Ti in the Rtx family?

  22. I'm still using my 1080 Ti

  23. Still rocking the 1080Ti since it came out. Playing daily. Rock solid. Although I do only play PUBG and Command and Conquer.

  24. Fun fact, you can play the Indiana Jones game on linux with non-ray tracing GPUs. 🙂

  25. Switched my 1080 for an evga 3080 ad launch but got screwed by the first version with only 10gb of vram and I had to switch to AMD (9070xt) to get a medium GPU for a similar price and not spend over 1000€

  26. My current PC is using a 1080ti, I play BF6, pubg, R6, new AC4 remake, it works fine within reasonable. I only feel very down when doom the drakages cannot be play.

  27. I went from an 980ti to a 2080, never had the mighty 1080ti 😢

  28. 9:15 That could be an interesting video idea. Buying a bunch of secondhand and oldish computer components (Mobo, CPU, etc) and running them maxed out until failure to see what failure modes there even are for these components, if they even fail at all.
    Id watch that.

  29. why's he got candy teeth????

  30. I Wana hang out with ye and thank him

  31. It makes me think straight

  32. I forgot about limp bizkit

  33. Just retired my 1080 Founders Edition a few days ago! Got an RTX 3080 Founders and it's great.
