Motherboards are the heart of any PC build, but while we take certain features and form factors for granted, specialty use and just plain bizarre system design means we get a few oddballs…

Now I want to upgrade my TV 😅
I wish i had that 300 USB ports available lmao
i iknow its a year later but gigabyte 8knxp rev 1 soooo many io options.
Linus.. and Team…
Please do more vids like this… I love learning about these

The oddest mobo I personally owned (by accident) was a MicroBTX Pentium 4 motherboard…yes BTX.. I didn't notice the different letter when I bought it until I tried to put the thing into my computer. Thought I had bought a motherboard from the mirror universe for second before I took another look at the box. 😛
Everything on the mobo is backwards. Assuming a tower case PC layout the expansion cards would end up on top instead of below the CPU area and obviously this means you couldn't put it in a normal ATX case. 😛
Kinda a shame I decided not to try and build it out. The one benefit to the BTX layout is the VGA/DVI/HDMI connectors on graphics cards added to this setup wouldn't be upside down in a tower case layout. 😛
The pricing for getting a BTX cooler and case made me choose not to finish that mistake. Had I at least been able to use the cooler I already got I would have considered trying to get a case to put it in. 😛
Dame people who use nothing but razer products would want the motherboard with a bunch of USB ports
Gigabyte is one of the only manufacturers that makes mobos with sufficient ports for flight simmers. Unfortunately, they tend to be mediocre.
that moment when a motherboard has a built in gpu better than mine
Outside of industrial manufacturing the most common uses I could see where you would need that many USB ports is modern arcade games like some of the fancy racing simulators you find at Dave & Buster’s, after all those things run windows and have a bunch of features that probably all plug-in with USB, any self contained kiosk that has a bunch of peripherals that plug-in via USB like for example an ATM, a self-service ordering kiosk at a fast food place where you have things like a touchscreen, a card reader, receipt printer cash dispenser etc. and then home flight simulator or American truck simulator set ups where you have a bunch of plug-in peripherals or macro set ups, think racing wheel with pedals, shifter, VR headset, custom button panels etc.
I don't see the problem with the first motherboard. What should be illegal is to sell motherboards with 4 USB ports.
1:24 I will need that motherboard 😂
My computer has a father board bc my father left me
My ASUS ROG G75VW takes a PGA788 CPU. Definitely worth upgrading to an i7 3940XM
This video offended my beautiful mechanical keyboard. It is not lowly. 🙁
My computer doesnt even have a motherboard. I think they are a waste of money so I sold mine and bought more ram instead.
The USB one is for stock trading and multi-displays driven via USB 3.
1:31 I can and I want! If you produce music on PC and you use external gear such as external synthesizers, effects, midi keyboards, etc., then you will quickly run out of USB ports. I believe my current motherboard has 10 USB ports, and that is not enough for my current setup, so I'm looking for a PCI USB expansion card. And it's not even because my setup is particularly big. I have 3 synthesizers, a drum machine, a sampler, an effects unit, an audio interface, a midi controller. digital recorder with stereo mic, mouse, keybouard and I need more USB ports, many more usb ports.
First one can be used in paralel robotics.
Weird motherboards are interesting. Extreme motherboards would be interesting, too. I'd take a video about that (I'll search to see if one exists, too).
1:12 💀💀💀💀
Linus, you're a goober. ~1:45 they're normal DC barrel connectors with threaded retention. You don't have to use the screw sleeve, a normal 5.5×2.5 DC barrel plug will fit as well.
@10:44 – I'm not sure where you get your info, but most of the entire sandy and ivy bridge mobile line was offered as PGA or FCBGA packaging. There's literally thousands of used i3, i5 and i7 chips on eBay starting at < $10. In that era, it was actually more common to see PGA chips socketed in laptops than soldered. The i7-3540M is a PGA988 chip that's as common, if not more common, than dirt, so is the i5-3340M. They're $10-30 on eBay. You're also confusing ULV parts with an entire product line. ULV parts were ultra low voltage chips for passive and fanless applications and are a small subset of the sandy and ivy bridge product lines.
I totally want a motherboard that would have more USB ports. Currently I have like 5xUSB-A, 1xUSB-C, and a case with 4xUSB-a. 10 USB ports total, and I still need to use a 1 to 4 dongle and 1 to 7 dongle, a 1 to 2 keyboard and have more dongles at the ready. I unplugged most stuff when I was cleaning up, but still I have stuff plugged into 12 ports.
Camera, Lighting, Microphone, Keyboard usbc cable, keyboard 2.4 connection, mouse 2.4, Bluetooth adapter, Soundbar, Keypad, Microphone, Headphones, usbc to usbc cable for connecting devices…
what are thooseeee
This tool kit looks like a HDMI thing
portwell was used to mine with old school usb sticks
90 degree angle and also rotated 180 degrees… ? come again?.
Upcycling of vendor locked Ryzen chips unfortunately won't be possible. More bullshit, courtesy of companies trying to bone us when we go to re-use stuff we already paid for!
The portwell one would have been a Chia miner dream, if Chia wasnt been a failure. Weird motherboards, i mean, there is a lot of industrial boards out there, some of them with ISA ports, the mining revolution yielded a lot of weird designs like the Asrock H510 pro BTC, the Btc S37… etc… The Asus J4005I-C is petty much a desktop board with soldered cpu, with once exception it has a LVDS and backlight connections avalible for use.
What a bs. Special cases need special hardware. Nobody forces you to buy it. And now stfu
In my experience no one uses motherboards for digital signage, they use either Stratacache devices or similar contained units.
Whoever wants a LOT of gaming mouses will love this video.
I could do with the first one, i have around 12 USB items and leads plugged into my PC including 6 external HDD's, charging cables etc 😅
Why are some of the shots of the mainboards horizontally flipped????
Isn’t it crazy when ridge wallet exists
I need this 20 usbs. As musician, who uses a lot of USB gear, I want be able to connect them all without any additional devices
that strange board with the mobile CPU……i have 2 of them……and i don't really need them…(the CPU's)….2 cores
I think it is 19 volt power on that small mobo
Consider plugging 20 different malicious USBs into every single one of those USB ports at the same time, and seeing how much of a wreck you could cause…
i loev lonux
that zeal board might be useful for "fixing" a tv with a dead mother board, i have an lg 4k smart tv that died weeks after the warranty expired and a new board for it is like $500, i wonder if zel will make a 2060 version or something that would handle 4k……
That last one is probably for a case with passive cooling
I was hoping to see some ASRock motherboards
Why the mirrored video of some board shots?
The first motherboard really got me. Finally I have enough space for my 18×10 Terabyte of external storage
