Awesome Tips Nest Cam Indoor review: Killed by cool-down times

The Nest Cam Indoor sports a fancy look and a nice list of features, but it lacks in value and misses on some performance tests.

We compare the specs and price of this Google-powered camera to options from Ring, Arlo and Wyze. We also put it to the test with a fizzy-water-stealing thief and Pepper the dog.

  1. bought it excited to set it up

  2. I want to get this to check on an elderly parent back home in the USA while I am in Europe. Just had a 4 day period of not hearing from her and this would be great just to see if she is OK. The only thing I don't understand if it would work, and I assume so, if my phone is European and not a US mobile phone? I assume this would be through a google app?

  3. It's the easiest for mum to call relying on Google sec tech

  4. You spoke about options that were less expensive. Are there better options for people who are willing to spend even more money?

  5. What about monitoring a basement boiler or furnace, in a darkly lighted room?

  6. I hope Pepper got extra treats for being a great model!! Also, just bought 2 of these. Not Peppers’ but the Nests

I recently purchased one of these. I have the old Nest indoor cam too. I don't know if it's just me, but I don't see a place in the Home app to schedule when the camera is on/off. I see a manual toggle button to turn it on/off but no auto-schedule. On the old indoor Nest cam, I could easily set up a schedule through the old Nest app. I don't think the newer devices are compatible with the old Nest app (which makes no sense)

Also, I have an older wired outdoor Nest cam and I bought a newer battery powered outdoor Nest cam. The wired cam picks up everything. I noticed the battery cam can have some delays. For instance, one time it picked up a guy walking across my driveway. I'll take a wild guess and say he was simply cutting between houses to get to the street. Anyway, it didn't pick him up in the back alley walking to my driveway. It picks up when he's half way in my driveway. I hope they provide updates to fix that.

I like Google's products and I am in the Google/Nest ecosystem with a Nest doorbell, inside/outside cameras, Chromecast with GoogleTV and Google home speakers but I don't think these updated products are doing what they anticipated. At this point, I prefer the older wired outdoor camera.

  7. Just changed my password and resetting my cameras is a huge headache. Go with wired system. If your internet goes down or there’s a power outage your still covered with wired systems. Plus you get only 1080p with Nest.

  8. The three reasons I won't quit Blink home cam just yet:
    1. No wires, installs in literal minutes
    2. No subscription
    3. Long battery life

  9. $99 surprisingly affordable to you???!! when i can get a cam with better video quality at far less?

  10. Thank you , I own that nest cam put I am unable to add it to my nest aware account , I check others have the same problem I could only add it to google home not happy about that. Hi Pepper if you had a doggy bed you might stay of the couch. I said might…

  11. Debating on getting 2 cameras I need one for the front and back yard. North side front, south side gets back sun exposure. Ideally leave them inside and plugged in. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see.

  12. You should know Blink likely has the same privacy concerns as Ring. They're both owned by Amazon.

  13. mah fizzy

  14. So it doesnt have two way radio!

  15. wyze cloud service is also less than 2 bucks a month per cam, and it does everything you talked about in this video

  16. I have owned 5 nest cameras for 2 years
    They are no good

  17. We have had the Google system for a couple years since it came out and we recently purchased a few wize cameras since we have had the wize cameras the free video recording has gone away maybe that feature at a time limit?

  18. This thing has all the functionality I want but looks so weird, I don't think the roundness is working for it. Color wise I like the white but wish it came in black. But I wish I could change the face plate too lol, is it black so it doesn't reflect light? I think indoors it shouldn't have any reflected light on in. Could be nice to get a single color camera. Oh yea I'm hoping to take the mount off of it and put it under a cabinet in the hallway so I can see who is in my house when I'm not home so black works but I have not bought one yet.

Rainbow Six Siege has taught me well.

  19. Surprising google is such a cheap company. The nest should have sdcard support, free 12h continuous playback cloud storage, and fully customizable features. I'm vehemently against subscriptions so no way I'm getting this. Ended up getting a eufy p24 and it works great.

  20. I'm here because, as of today, the Starling Home hub ($99) now allows any(?) Nest Cam to connect to Apple's Homekit Secure Video. So I'm here to figure out if I like the camera. The cooldown issue that you are concerned about is moot if I use Apple's HSV.
