Can we just take a moment to appreciate that the main thing that pushed Linus into buying an entire house was his kids asking for their own rooms? Dude is a great dad, I would've been told by my family to just deal with it and live with sharing a room with my sister. I know he's going to trick this place out to be perfect for his family, because he clearly cares an immense amount about them. Massive respect.

What great parents they're kids were growing up and needed privacy so they uprooted from they're perfect home to make room for the kids. I'm sure there were other reasons but still nowadays it's rare to see parents sacrifice anything for they're kids

Just get some SHDSL system to translate any information your smart thermostat needs to transmit and have a reciever at the other end! Ezpz! No need to rewire anything. You could propably do it with a couple (20) of arduinos or less! Maybe like 12 or 13 of them :^)

Why not look at some cool commercial AV protocols for 4k video distribution over IP. That way you could literally route your video from any source to any display in the house. Same with USB 2.0. There are some matrixing USB products on the market too.

Linus my one tip as far as the home heating and cooling automation goes: Live with the stock system for all 4 seasons THEN start planning the "smart" integration accordingly.
