It's a shame that you can't tell these assistants to use different names.
If i could do it locally and train it so that it's always listening, you could open/close the garage door with "open/Close the pod bays doors HAL" and the home voice system would listen for its name at beginning or end of sentences. Train it for multiple people so certain things couldn't (like garage doors) couldn't be opened by the kids.

I'm not sure the re-auth thing Jake was talking about for Google assistant is a thing anymore. I've had it set up to integrate my HA into Google Assistant for light control, and not once have I been prompted to reauthenticate.

Hey question, anyone know how they were planning on running so many zwave devices on one zwave controller stick? Cuz as far as I know the zwave protocol only allows up to a curtqin amount of devices per controller (not sure what the maximum amount was from the top of my head)

Maybe it's just me, but in my house the last thing I want is Amazon or Google being able to open or close my doors. Not that I think that Jeff Bezos is gonna rob my house, but if their servers get hacked or a vulnerability is found, it could be used by thieves to rob your house.
If you're slightly techy and have some spare hardware at home, set up a Home Assistant server and use either a relay switch like Linus did, or (as in my home) you can use the MyQ integration that comes standard on most decent garage openers today (I believe all LiftMaster's within the last 5ish years have this) and put it on a separate VLAN to ensure it has no access to the internet. Then you can route everything through a HomeBridge to your HA server and communicate externally via that. Obviously this is not a viable solution for everyone though.

As long as the receiver and the contact are mounted at the same height while the door is closed, as they should be to make contact and work, it does not matter where they’re mounted. You could mount them up high and it would still recognize if the door was open even a little.

I got the Meross garage door opener and it works very well. If it doesn't support your garage opener you just email them and they send you a garage door remote to pair and then you connect that to it. So it's pretty genius

I have one of the Garage King "Smart openers" and honestly I see no point to it. I've had the opener for a year now and honestly never use the app at all since I only need to open it if I am leaving or pulling up which I will just use the included remote. Its a solution for a problem that does not exist.

Am I the only one that noticed that it doesn't really matter? If it's open a little bit the 2 components will be separated anyway, at any height. It's not like if you open a little bit only the bottom will come up, all the door will move. Also, if it's at the bottom you could theoretically put something in front of the detector before the 2 pieces detach so it won't detect it opening.. but that is a very remote possibility.
can you give us a list of parts you bought so we can do this?
It flashes for UL325 complience. you could use GD00Z-8-GC its zwave but it does flash.
Fun Fakt, it dosnt mater at what hight the sensor is, at all. (As long the triger is at the same positon when the dor is closed.)
