I had a science project that I did today where I had to build an electrical component like a motor, light bulb, etc. And I used this trick and it actually worked! Thanks so much!

I actually got an idea. Make liquid glass (the solution one, not the super hot one) fill it with very little air. And maybe the graphite will use the oxygen then stop burning and be a graphite lightbulb working forever?

Or just get a candle, or some oil or gasoline and some leather or wool, you know, for emergencies… Might want to keep the batteries for cellphone or flashlight, but it's damn cool.
A shame you didn't said how long does a 0.5mm lead lasts etc.. And how long the batteries lasts?
And why you need to put the glass on top light that… Might be better used for heating?

i used 7 D batteries and the jar still didn't light up. Only the graphite turned red, but not completely

for this project, you do NOT want the graphite to conduct well, you want it to have enough resistance (exact inverse of conductivity) that all that extra current will dissipate in the form of heat.
