Basic physics: A salt crystal will not absorb a consequential amount of water without dissolving. It will not emit any bound water without being heated BEYOND THE WATER'S BOILING POINT. Salt crystals do not absorb dust, pollen, or "other contaminants" under ANY circumstances WHATSOEVER.
