They all suck period.
The Garmin is the right size. I find the Nexar to easy to see. The Vantrue seems good but I don't think you need a built-in monitor these days. The last one looks good; I'll investigate it.
It can't be a "best" without evaluating the video they produce.
I had a police vehicle do a U turn into the side of my car, still fighting to get it in front of a magistrate, I can prove it wasn't my fault. Never driven a car without a dash camera since that day.
Also if you're installing one, consider a semi permeant install. I have a 12v fuse tap powering my camera from the 12v lighter fuse under the dash, no USB plugs, turns on the camera when you turn the key and it's easy to uninstall should you want to. Remove the fuse tap, take out the original fuse from the tap and replace it in the original fuse slot, remove your cable, remove your camera.
I've never had good luck with suction cup mounts; they always pop off! One thing the video doesn't address is the angle of the windshield/screen: some are angled such that if the dash cam is "locked" into a single position, it will be aimed so high above traffic as to make it worthless! So, having a camera with an adjustable angle mount is very important.
Also, the majority of people will not be able to properly run the wire from the dash cam to the power source (e.g., the car's cigarette lighter (which is going by the wayside, along with 8-track and cassette players, as well as CD/DVDs!) or USB connector), so, that can be a sticking point, as well. Even if the dash cam has a rechargeable battery, most modern cars do not supply power when the engine is off, so, the only way to charge it is while the car is running, which means that the power cable may be dangling, dangerously, near your line-of-sight. And, if your car has only one power source – – cigarette lighter or USB – – then you won't be able to plug in other devices, such as your phone, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. Fortunately, there are devices you can plug into that power source to give you extra outlets, but, some of them are not reliable (e.g., I bought a 1-to-3 cigarette lighter adapter, but, no matter how hard I tried, NONE of the outlets worked; a free replacement unit wasn't any better, so, I got my money back; USB adapters are somewhat better, but, some have the same connectivity issue).
So, add all the above when considering which dash cam is best for your, not only in terms of functionality, but, also, in aesthetics, ease-of-use, and connectivity! For me, the best unit would have the following features, at the very least: 4k, night vision, multi-angled, shock-activated when parked, in-unit rechargeable battery with a minimum one-hour charge between plug-ins, minimum 32 gig memory card, smartphone accessible with hack-resistant security features, front and rear cameras, a screen that can be turned off while the cam records, capable of getting other cars' license plate numbers (most can't unless they have a separate telephoto lens) (n.b., there may be things I'm omitting; I'll add them if/when I think of them, but, this is, already, a long list, and adds to the expense of the unit).
it is far the time videos was genuine ! NOW ONLY AMAZON LINK TO GET COMMISSION ! they don't care about what they are reviewed… Few years agos Youtuber really TESTED AND reviews products….
Hello can anyone recommend me a dash cam which supports over 128gb than k you
One of the best way I found out about top dash cams based on their video quality, was to watch hundreds of road rage videos on Youtube. Some videos out there shows the camera model used to shoot the posted videos. Some videos clearly shows the captured car number plates. Once you get to see both the dash cam videos and the model used to shoot them, you can use own personal judgement to determine if you would like to get the same quality shots. That is what I did but regrettably, I found these dash cam models to be costly.
Excellent info, many thanks…
If someone breaks into your car and you have a cam with cabin view that saves to an SD card, all they have to do is take the camera or at least the SD card and it's defeated.
Suction cup mounts suck!!!! Are there any like this without suction cups besides the rear view mirror ones?

I do uber driving as a side job and having a dashcam that can show the inside is definitely a must have incase something happens.
Don't buy Nexar! Ten months into ownership and it dies, Nexar Pro. $240. Nexar has no tech support phone number, just email. They do not want to honor their 1-year warranty. That is a lot of money to just have to eat!
DON'T BUY NEXAR.
I'm waiting for dash cams do better at capturing license plates. I've needed my dash cam for accident reports, and it can't resolve license plate numbers because of the motion of my car or theirs. The shutter time is too long to avoid blurring.
For me, this kind of review should include real-world performance like that.
10:35, How many young couples you think got busted at a "lover's lane" or scenic overlook, do to the G sensor and SOS feature…lol.
Love listening to this guy.
SUCTION CUP WILL FADE AWAY AND MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL FALL DOWN ON VIVRATION. BEST IS THE REAR VIEW MIRROR STYLE SO NO MORE ADDITIONAL OBSTRUCTION.
It’s really weird the quality , both design & video, on almost all car dash cams is crappy in a era of 4K cell phones , go pros, and other modern tech . And how most car makers don’t offer one built in . 🤔
Features features features. But which one has best video quality. Passssss
Wish cars are more mod friendly
Other words it comes with pre-built ports to connect the dashcam directly to your car
For example the higher end models of toyota tacoma has a port on the rear view mirror you can connect your dashcam there instead of wire managing the cables
There's more and more idiots these days
Might as well record them 🤣
I'm really not sure which dash cam is best because I choose not to have data on my cell phone so don't use apps.I would have to download any event to my lap top or PC.That's where the indecision comes in as to which one is best.
Would have been nice if he actually talked about the video quality of the cameras.
I wish pioneer and Alpine dash cam were included in this
I just got a fitcamx for my new Lexus. This actually replaces the OEM sensor cover behind the mirror and makes the installation super simple by using OEM tabs and a "T" plug and play cord for power. Its powered by a capacitor and has a phone app interface. IMHO, this was the easiest cleanest install Ive had for a dashcam.
I bought a Rove. They say 4k,but it's not. It's 2880 x 2160, not 3840 x 2160 like anyone buying 4k would expect
My Vantrue N4 has had issues. Rear cam failed out of the box. Front camera had issus 20 months later. Sadly, 18 mo. warrantee. They wanted me to jump through hoops to try to fix it. I gave up.
biggest problem here is the quality of the camera is NOT shown
4k doesn't mean you can get clearer pictures. Shutter speed is mostly what determines that when you're are moving at speed. Good job cnet. Business as usual for you guys.
I’ve had many nexar ones. They are garbage. Unfortunately. I had high hopes for them. and customer service is horrible!!
My dashcam just got me a $40k (after medical expenses) personal injury settlement.
brian what about adding a raspberry pi with a wifi and lte connection and remote connection to cameras as PI only needs 5 volt can hide somewhere a crook will not look
I’ve been wanting to get a dash cam for about four years. Thank you video I think I’m gonna make it happen pretty soon. My interest in them is primarily in case I get in an accident I can record what really happened.
This a stupid review.
They are basically all the same.
Excellent presenter. I could listen to him all day.
Which one is better for night vision as well? Thank you! Do you need to remove the rear one when using the rear defroster? Thank you.
never had a pick up truck and never will. been fine without one 😇
So much yapping but not a single mention if any camera has quality to show license plate. "4k camera" that upscale from 240p sensor has even worse image than true 480p.
thanks
