  1. Tbh, LoRA is pretty great tech

  2. yeah… i tried to use this home assistant…. but… yes… didn't work for me, way too complicated to use so i made my own home assistant

  3. Sponsor ends at 1:10

  4. fast forward one year; and you're saying that isomething with Z-Wave is messing with your living-room's wireless sound. Have you resolved it, yet?

  5. I just love how enthousiastic linus still sounds here.

Too bad zwave is nearly dead. 😠

  6. Home assistant seems nice but I run Homeseer controlling x10, zwave+, concord alarm, 310mhz and 433mhz devices…I too hate batteries so motion sensors are battery and security devices use 3.6v 1/2 AA and last 12y

  7. So much to choose from. Easily overwhelmed. I picked Z-Wave a few years ago and have stuck with it ever since. Super reliable, but devices not the cheapest.

  8. Sounds like the easiest thing to hack.

No Linus as an IoT Engineer I can say is wifi devices can be battery powered my DIY made PIR smart sensor lasts 3.2 years with single charge for 2000mAh lithium ion battery… My DIY made sensor uses ESP12F MCU and PIR module draws 26uA in sleep mode and it does get activated about total of 50 seconds in a day. And my sensors connects to Home Assistant in 500ms max

  9. What's up with that Low-Tech Hardie controller? It's gotta be at least 20 years old.

  10. Anyone know what program they're showing a screenshot of at 4:56?

  11. Almost recommend you to our school district but the crudeness and safety inconsistencies won’t work.

  12. Nice video

  13. the bliss of not knowing what these switches will put him through with the customer service

  14. Innovelli or zooz switches don’t need an addon switch for three ways, the regular one works.

  15. ""the scripted part is now over" proceeds to talk about sticking fingers in butholes

  16. I’m running almost 60 devices, from dimmers to switches, smart bulbs, cameras, doorbells, locks, motion sensors, light sensors, occupancy sensors, alarm equipment – all on a Vera Home Controller with built in z wave, zig bee and Wi-Fi.
Some things are automated by scheduling or conditional logic, while others are parts of scenes that I can initiate with Google.
I replaced a switch at a time when I could afford it, and now the house is almost fully automated.
As an electrician and a lighting control expert, I had a leg up, but anyone can follow the directions to make your home smart.

  17. Smart home device are amazing. It's growing on me a lot ! Especialy after looking at @Smart Home Solver yt videos and Linus !!

  18. Here's an automation idea: "If motion sensor doesn't detect movement for 24 hours, call 911"

  19. 10:54 that smooth

  20. Yes it is really bad to run an empty microwave, please don't do it

  21. 6:20 I love the rare moments where Linus is just extremely fucking out of pocket

in europe zigbee works on about 800 mHz. so zigbee wins here 😀

  22. I have a tuya based contact sensor. I have the local key, id and the ip address for it, I am not able to add it to local tuya in homeassistant. Please guide how can I add it via .yaml configuration to local tuya.

    Kindly guide.

  23. "I don't have the little pokey-jabby."
    "You don't need a pokey-jabby."
    "I do need a pokey-jabby."
"Why do you need a pokey-jabby?"
"So I can get the thing out."

This is the nuanced technical information that I subscribed for.

  24. I stopped buying smart home stuff until matter is released. But if I do, it’s usually zigbee I feel z-wave is the lesser of the 2

  25. Wire chunk? You mean a pig tail?

  26. 12:04 This bit is really unfortunate after the switch episode recently.

  27. This video is going to get 50m views

  28. This man is teaching me more than I could have learned from magazine articles.

  29. If only he knew….

  30. so happy with my jasco switches. i didnt want every device to have to maintain a TCIP connection and IP reservation just to do one simple command.

  31. I have that Fluke 117! 🙂

  32. Looks like a Zinnser/Challenger panel. Time for a bus bar upgrade on your main.

  33. It is not true that ZigBee devices require no certification. In order to make a commercial product, your company must first be part of the ZigBee Alliance and second, each device also gets certificated. But even though there is a ZigBee standard that makes sure devices from different vendors can work together, vendors are not required to use it and can extend it on use their own higher level communications protocol. This basically means that ZigBee bulbs from manufacturer A might not work with manufacturer’s B Hub if one of them didn’t follow the standard strictly.
