Deals for Days. Big home savings are happening now.
Yeah, USB type-C everything. USB type-D is coming soon. jk
this all seems a bit overcomplicated when you consider that universal power adaptors that come with various connectors for various DC plugs have existed for decades and only require you to set the right voltage on the power brick that plugs into the wall.
It seems outright ridiculous in most cases when talking about devices with built in power supplies that use a fairly universal 120V power cord that most people will have laying around somewhere in their house if they're into technology and electronics at any level. I've on more than one occasion taken a power cord from a boombox or other device to power a playstation for example, all without having to order special adaptors or go to the store to buy an official sony power cord.
solutions to powering devices don't always have to be complicated or brand new technology. Always remember the acronym many technicians and engineers in various fields live by which is K.I.S.S aka keep it simple stupid. The simpler you can keep a given device's operation the less likely something can go wrong with it.
Still waiting on powering a monster PC with USB-C
Put some respect on retro consoles when you say their name
Can we replace our wall sockets with USB C ones and have all home appliances run on USB C?
Where is Anthony?
can you demo how to power mac mini with USB. ie from Monitor with USB PD
At this point, just fucking emulate lol
Didd you know NES accepts both polarities and even ac
Great transition to the sponsor msg 😅
Forget the tv
If only the standard was standard.
I have that exact hard drive as in the intro
All usb c setup is coming
Linus broke into my house and converted my snes to type c in the middle of the night
I swear the nes power brick says 1.8 amps at 9volts.
The only reason why this isn’t always viable for old devices…. Is cuz.
If you don’t find a power brick that’s the exact specs to the one included with the device (like the N64 or something)
Then you might cause unintended issues with the device, and possibly breaking it permanently. This is why I’m someone who’s partial to emulator or alternate copies of games whenever I wanna play them again.
Like I’ve had Mario 64 on Wii for ages, as well as the collection. But I’m hardly interested these days anymore, because of new and interesting games.
some say that linus was still speaking while the intro was playing…
"Magic isn't real and magicians are schifty swindlers who steal your ear quarters". I spit my actual drink out laughing. I knew they were only in it for the ear quarters!
Hearing David from behind the camera yell "shut the front door!" when it just worked right off the bat. I automatically assumed this whole video was a David idea being retro console-related. 😅
How about xbox 360?
controllers aren't type c. unsubscribed.
Anyone else have the music from SMB 3 playing in their head?
The reason you don't feel complete is that
If you shut up for once, well u can't.
@MattKC lmao
Well i hate USB C, had many phones with USB-B (micro) and never had any problems… every USB C device i have has since broken due to loosly fitting connector that eventually stops working. It see it upsides in technical use but for me the best connector still is micro USB
Fun fact, the NES's power system is designed to work with any 9V source, AC or DC, center positive or negative. Might make having multiple cables a little easier, if the barrels match, you can use the same cable for all earlier devices.
PS5 on USBC when?
So if you have to use an adapter to convert the normal plug to USB C why not just use the normal plug?
In Pal SNES, we have the japan DC plug
No more NEMA 5-15? I'm down!
I was head scratching about the monitors part because all my monitors take AC directly. Even the Odyssey G9 Neo I bought this year.
I take it the DC thing is something the cheaper monitors are starting to do?
In some ways it would make sense for monitors to move towards DC, because in theory you should be able to run a single USB-C cable from the computer to the monitor and use it for both power and data.
If you need a special cable, might as well stay with the barrel jacks.
I wonder if you can convert a wii to usb c
This video alone would be the greatest sponsorship campaign for UGREEN products
ugreen finally approved by linus, lol, i’ve been using their cables for years now
I like that the iPhone 14 was shown to demonstraight the graphic of usb-c
Lightning is better
I would've liked an example of powering a Genesis + 32x + Sega CD from the same PD adapter. It's probably about 28W total?
that is really cool and now I want everything converted to usb-c as well
While it's not USB-C, the Playstation line is convenient in that all the home consoles (except the PS2 slim, but its AC adapter does) accepts their standard plug Sony's been using for their stereos for decades. If you have a Sony boombox with a removable power cable, you can use that to power your PS5.
I have 6 monitors for my PC. 2 Sceptre M24; 1 Sceptre L24; 2 Element E1SW2418M all with a 12V DC adapter. The other monitor has a regular plug. What converter do I need to use for the DC monitors to convert them to be able to use 1 USB C adapter brick?
