You are right ! I changed my AMD laptop dram from single rank to dual rank Kingston value ram . The performance gain was around 20% !
yeah, the ram and the wifi card…. they don't care.
I bought this laptop on sale at 1099 on November 2022 from 1699 of the original price for the QHD version.
With the money I saved I upgraded the SSD with 2 fast 1TB Gen 3 from Sabrent that runs cool and is much faster for gaming (I have cloned the internal to the first Sabrent and then replace it with another Sabrent for a 2TB total SSD), I replaced the slow stock ram 1Rx16 CL22 with super-fast 2x16GB DDR4 1Rx8 CL20 Kingston FURY (total 32GB) & I also replaced the unreliable WI-FI/Bluetooth card with a fast and reliable INTEL AX210 NGW. All this costed about 320$ that can be 220$ if you go for the more than enough 16GB ram. All the components I have removed I sold them for used and I made some extra cash (about 100$) for the rest of the upgrades.
All the above are super easy to do if you have basic computer skills, 15’ time and a LTT screwdriver.
With the remaining money bought also on sale: one ROG Falchion NX 65 keyboard, one mouse ROG Chakram, the AUKEY PC-LM1E 1080p camera and the Creative Pebble V3 Speakers (total cost another 200$).
All the above upgrades and accessories costed less than the discount I got from best buy and I added a few more $ to the ones I made by selling the stock parts for one QHD LG Ultragear 27GP850-B monitor at 165Hz that is currently on sale at 300$ for a full gaming set up and for bypassing completely the integrated GPU since there is no MUX switch in this laptop.
On benchmarks and on new AAA games this configuration is faster about 25%-30% of the original configuration and faster than a i7 11800H + RTX 3080M laptop that cost about double the original 1699 price of this laptop with smaller SSD and less RAM! All upgrades plus the laptop and peripherals cost me a total of 1820$. All this for a full gaming set up (external screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers and camera) plus 2TB SSD, 32GB ram and fast WIFi6.
Every game run on ultra-settings smoothly as butter.
I highly recommend it even on original price at best buy if you are considering buying the Nvidia variation and you will have the fastest laptop out there and a lot of hard earned $ saved.
I think the reasoning in this situation was due to supply constraints. That I believe was the reasoning lenovo had to say with their laptop
They are worried about ram modules and statistics , I am worried that 95% of vendors dont specify tgp of the GPUs , the TDP of the cpus , and not even the the websites of those companies , like intel locking the 12th gen underrvolting for laptops – none said anything anywere
GTX 1080 ti value > RTX 4090 change my mind.
I got an N1 advantage edition model a month ago brand new from Best buy and it had 2 8GB micron 1Rx16 ram sticks and I upgraded to the Crucial 32gb ram and performance is through the roof now. It was built in 2022 and still had the bad ram but micron instead of Samsung. 😂
Very helpful, thanks
Hey so I'm just watching to learn about ram density, and at about the 12 minute mark you say that in future you will disclose the ram density of any gaming laptop you review, however i can not recall an instance of this, maybe i missed one i dunno, but you made a good point and it does matter, soooo
so Intel's going at it again just like in the 2000s era….
Great video… thanks for awareness
Is crucial better than corsair
Bro, What about 1Rx4 VS. 1Rx8
Please Reply. Which gonna Fast.?
Crazy how ram on $1650 laptop is slower than my $1200 Hp Victus 16.
PS – My Laptop came with 1Rx8 16 GB Dual Channel from factory.
I just purchased R15 advantage, and I plan to upgrade RAM to 32Gb. Your test just supports my choice.
A ram made from ph? i have never seen that like ever, even here in ph
Omg thank you for this video..I have that Asus advantage laptop and I just went from 40 fps medium to 75 fps on high with ultra setting on cyber punk….just from swapping to quality ramm
stupid question now… I have this laptop and I want to upgrade the ram at this point, if I spend the extra cash and update with two 16GB stick, will the gaming performance improve more?
And how I should choose the perfect memory?
This isn't really a trick, you can see this in the GPU world too and you could see it for years. As the bandwidth goes up, the performance does also.
i was just on the phone with kingston memory they told me no difference between the two…sneaky
TLDR:
Lower density DDR ram significantly increases GPU performance in lower monitor resolutions. The difference is not as pronounced in 4k.
1Rx8 = 8 chip (lower density DDR)
is better than..
1Rx16 = 4 chip (higher density DDR)
Great Comparision 👍😀
Regards from Europe from my channel Brothers 👍😀
kane williamson branching out!
Thank you for this. I just realized after watching a teardown of my identical ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS G15 (2021) that it has x16 RAM. Time to swap that garbage out. However half of the RAM is permanently on the board and I don't know what the density of of that RAM is. Will it matter if the soldered RAM is x16 and I upgrade the removable SO-DIMM to a x8 stick?
What about kingston hyperX impact KF432S20IBK2/64?? I had this in my legion 5 pro 2021 intel.
im flavargasted that this wasnt found out sooner? and ALSO any comparison on 1rx8 vs 2rx8? heheh thanks
The fact that even Anthony couldn't fully explain what was going on should have been an immediate sign that Asus and AMD wouldn't know either
i dont understand this enough to take away any useful information from this video
No one cares that AMD should get the same as Intel. Intel are always get the benefits then AMD system. Is it so Hard to get the same things on AMD and Intel. Oh btw, Linus dont care about AMD after all.
What about 2R×8 is it the same as 1R×8?
What's your ram density dawg?
