Whenever I make the partition during the install, it gives me an error message around 9% and says it can't download windows onto that drive.
Whenever I repair my mom's old laptop or help install a new tech item in my family's house I get paid quite a bit so I'm pleased with being known as the "IT" guy in the family.

A better way of dealing with this situation is to CHARGE them for every hour spent dealing with THEIR problems. I've avoided some friends that tried using me to support their systems. Once you try and charge, they stay well clear of you.

Pretty much unless youre getting paid keep it a secret. Because every kid in your extended family wants the latest Fortnite/Minecraft machine while their parents dont know jack PCs. Oh but wait they remember your mom mentioning to them offhand at a reunion that you built a PC before for personal use. So low and behold as a "kind relative" you must now go and help them set up their PC for free.
Unless im close to the relative at a point i would just say "your parents went to school longer and make more than me, they can learn how to build a PC on YT like i did"

I was using a Western Digital portable Game 5tb Hard drive, well over two years, and then caput, dead in the water, no recoverable data (mainly games) Was a sad day for my library.
I have accidentally reformatted external drives while trying to make a Linux live USB….. many times. You would think after the first time I would be terrible sure to check what drive I am reformatting / not have my backup drive plugged into my computer while making Live USB's, but sadly I have not always been so cautious. I have lost at most under 500 GBs of data at least three times….

Im not gonna lie. Being the "tech guy" for friends and family does suck but doing it for work knowing you won't get paid for it sucks more.
And this is why I love Time Machine on Mac so much.

All that stuff from before the Acronis showcase is stuff I've been doing for a few years now, when the rate of corruption. For Windows 10 updates. Got really tired of COMPLETELY reinstalling some games a d programs, and of rooting my personal files out of the windows.old folder every time I needed to reinstall. Rather than just partitions tho, I keep it all on separate drives, and any computer I build for someone else gets set up the same way.
Keeping data off C:/ is just a good idea in general! I've had to do four clean Window's installations in the past for family members and a few have caused a massive headache with lost data.
Family members these days all get Chromebooks.

At 4:10 after changing the location of desktop ,download, music, pictures etc to another drive it will be deleted if u format your c drive
I find the better way to handle putting user folders to the storage drive, is to use Sysprep, and to move the entire users folder location. This moves the location for all existing and new user folders for the machine, and does so much more cleanly.
