Microsoft welcomes Mac Users ๐๐ฝ
The thought of relying on any Mac that is not user serviceable is terrifying.
Other than the 2019 Mac Pro what are my modern day Mac options for a system that is powerful but more importantly modular?
Iโve considered that perhaps I donโt need all the power of the Mac Pro 7,1. But what I do need is the modularity of it.
I work as a sound editor. Sometimes I assist and sometimes I edit.
My hours are not 9 to 5. I can sometimes be on call for an ADR session that is taking place in London or Paris or India.
Time differences and flexible work hours can sometimes push my โon the clock hoursโ into the late evening or early morning. Well after or before I could take my Mac into the mothership for repairs.
As it is I can quickly trouble shoot and fix my Mac Pro 5,1 in an emergency. It has happened before and it will happen again.
I currently have clones of my operating systems standing by in case of a sudden drive failure or any software weirdness that could otherwise disrupt my workflow.
I just swap out the drives and Iโm back in business.
Is the GPU freaking out for some reason? Iโll just grab my old card and see where that takes me.
RAM somehow causing a problem? Maybe I can pull chips one by one and find the culprit and just get by with less RAM for the night/morning.
Worst case scenario is I limp along with a patched system until I can diagnose the software issues or get the necessary repairs or buy new parts. But I can keep working. Ya knowโฆ like a Pro.
Thatโs what it means to me to be a Pro. To use Pro gear. And Pro gear is modular.
Itโs not all about how small or thin the device is. Itโs actually not even about how powerful or energy efficient it is.
For me the true power of any Pro Computer is its flexibility on the fly.
The saying "Time is Money" is very true. No doubt. However… Down Time is also Money.
Along with the issue of not being modular the upgrade path is also somewhat limited.
I'd love to buy into the new Apple Silicon Mac hardware but you can't get what you need now and upgrade later with these systems.
To be safe I have to go all in or at least go well over what I think I need to feel future proof.
I need RAM more than I need Ultra power. But I can't get the RAM I need in the Max config so I have to spend $1200.00 to upgrade to the Ultra chip which I will most likely never need.
I've got my Mac Pro 5,1 set up so that I can do what I need to do… but i's sluggish. It suffers from a response delay that is short but noticeable.
I've broken down and bought a refurb Mac Studio Ultra 20/64 with 128 GB of Ram.
Its definitely solved the sluggishness issue and I do like being in Monterey but I can't stop thinking about the money I spent that I wont get any use out of.
I'll prob return this Mac Studio and suffer with my trusty old Mac Pro 5,1 until I see what the Apple Silicon Mac Pro will bring.
Hopefully it will be even more modular than the Mac Pro 7,1 while offering the power and energy efficiency of the M series chips.
I love how a stand to hold up the monitor is a perk these days ๐๐๐
Is anyone elsed having trouble with mouse and trackpad freezes?
Hi, I use LG Monitor 27 Inch – Refresh Rate 75 Hz. HDMI connection. Can I connect this to Mac Study M1 Max? Will the speed vary if I use HDMI monitors?
Has it got an Ethernet port for direct connection from the modem?
It's amazing, where I live the faster machine is over $6000, but the waiting list is very long. Looks like the worldwide chip shortage is playing havoc with delivery
Man, I have to give him credit for saying all that technical jargon and repeating the chips that sound virtually the same and saying it all without losing his breath.
One stupid downside. Can only connect ONE Thunderbolt monitor. Hooking up additional monitor requires using HDMI port. Why can you not hook up two Mac Studio Displays???
Testing logic without speakers or headphones..?

Apple always put too little flash memory in their base model iPhones and Macs. I would recommend buying the base model of the Mac Studio but with 1 or 2 Tb instead of the default none upgradable 0.5 Tb of Flash memory. One additional advantage of buying a larger SSD that I discovered is that the larger Apple SSDs are faster.
My order disappeared like my emails, passwords and abilities to respond to comments. If you ask the right questions corporations team up against you.
The Macbook pro is an all in one system? The studio is meant to be connected to a separate display, separate mouse … Great reporting, keep up the groundbreaking work
Your โreviewโ sucksโฆ you conveniently gloss over the deplorable camera quality on the displayโฆ or the fact that the stand is too low for most users, yet with no support for raising it (it is even visible in your vid that this screen is too low for you too) โฆ.
Does anyone else have issues with a high
pitched whistling noise coming out the back of the Max Studio? It's driving me crazy and I don't know what to do. It happens even when there's basically no programs running.
1500 dollars isn't reasonable, you can get a professional color graded 4k, 60hz monitor for 400 dollars
It's just Apple's new way to get more money from creators. It's no more special than an iMac pro… The only things that are a benefit here to Apple is more ka ching and solving the right to repair or upgrade ๐ค
I donโt understand why the bazels has to be bigger on the Studio Display than on the 32โ model. Why not make them similar?
F*** why does no one do a review on how the studio display look when gaming
You lost me with those rolled up sleeves. The whole time I was trying to listen to you, I was dodging and weaving your karate chopping sleeves.
it can be open
I saw a CAD program being used by yourself…that is what I want a demo of ….most Apple Salesmen Videos on this forum is all about video or photography…I WANT TO KNOW IF STUDIO MAX COULD BE A GOOD CAD ENGINEERING MACHINE !!!
With all these computing powers I wonder why they're not sentient yet? ๐
Abit of an overkill for the display, could have made it smarter
Can I get mine without the box? $50, a penny saved is a penny earned ๐
I am hoping that the chip in the display will help with a more serious color calibration of the display for professional photo editing and printing
Do you recommend Studio Display for a photographer. I do not shoot video.
Studio Display is Telescreen
Can you compare the studio with the mini? What's the difference? I'm looking at the specifications, but performance wise I'm not seeing any comparisons. Film major. Thanks for this. I always thought the Mac Mini was supposed to be a stack and so people can stack upgrades beneath the Mac Mini. I'm 3 minutes into the video. Please excuse me. I'll watch the rest.
1:07 which model of MBP is this ?
You didnโt test the m1 ultra??????? THATโS WHAT THE H3LL we came here for!!!!
The reality is for most professional users. 90+% of the time the computer is basically idle. Most billing hours are spent thinking, reviewing and planning. The time is spent mostly on tasks that do not saturate the cores in any meaningful way for M1 pro/max/ultra Thatโs why spending so much money on the highest top of the line makes little sense for most people. The m1 ultra may be on paper twice fast as the max., but that doesnโt mean that your productivity is going to double. I find it funny to see people spending $6K+ on machine like thus just to edit basic very simple YouTube videos and then say theyโre so productive because they saved 10 seconds exporting a file.
Did you really call front IO an innovation? Something thats been available on computers for over 30 years?
The Pro Display XDR doesnโt require the $999 stand. You can get the VESA adapter for $199 and a generic single monitor stand that works with the VESA size standard.
Word is that that A13 in the studio display is running a full version of iOS. ASSuming that's true – why wouldn't Center Stage work on Windows? Nothing needs to happen on the Windows side, the monitor does it all.
Iโm wondering if there is an advantage to MAX for running CAD software?
Just saw Breakdown of a Base Mac Studio on Max Tech's channel….looks like there may be an empty SSD connector….
how many of these 'creatives' are there, really? Aspiring podcast and music producers?
๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ๐๐๐๐
Your video was overlayed with a "StorMagic" add at bottom that was malformed and if you clicked on X to close, it actually launched link to the web page. Shame on YouTube for taking away from your content!!!!!
I donโt care how fast this Mac studio is i still like my 2019 Mac Pro with Apple Pro Display XDR it does everything, you canโt upgrade anything in Mac Studio
Is this replacing the 27" iMac?
What a buffoon!
Yiu didnโt test the ultra version of the product.
Which is the only version holds the value proposition fir the Studio.
Havenโt watched a CNET review in years cuz โฆ now I remember why I stopped watching.
Cuz cnet just canโt get the story right even when itโs staring then right in the face.
$200 for the keyboard and I bet it still isn't backlit like the Logitech MX
They didnt include the 3d artist and producers in the creative class.
This is the same expansion limitations as a laptop. Both Mac and PC laptops have this limitation. I worked years several at small custom coding/computer retailer in Tennessee. We offered both stock and custom build PCs. As I recall once a customer purchased their PC, they almost never upgraded. They would get external hard drives, maybe a new monitor. Generally four to five years later, they would get a whole new system. Getting a system that you can upgrade yourself isnโt as big a draw as you might think. Of course, that is just my experience, your experience could well be different.
This is just more overpriced mediocrity from Apple!
I don't know how people keep saying Apple has good video quality like all their cameras are so bad! Especially on their computers! Between the bad colors the choppiness of the video and the actual pretty bad HDR anybody saying Apple cameras r the best you're just a fan boy you only care about the Apple logo not the quality of the photos or videos!
