Comments

  1. I'll give this phone a try when my current phone (3 year old Nokia 7.1) dies, but it's still working as if it's new, pretty good for a 200 euro midrange phone.

  2. I need wireless charging with my phone. I lose everything very frequently and don’t remember where any cables are due to me moving them and needing them in different rooms or areas. My wireless charger that doesn’t move is one of my favorite things. I can also have my Apple Watch wirelessly charge and AirPods all right next to each other while the cables are lost to my mess of computer cables and type a, c, and micro usb cords

  3. My favorite part of the phone is the sustainability. My least favorite thing is the screen. I watch a lot of Youtube and if you don't look at the screen completely head on I feel like the colors distort. I don't know if that is because I pay more attention to that thing nowadays or if it actually is worse than say a Samsung phone that I had before the FP

  4. Gorilla glass 5 on Samsung Galaxy S9 according to a destruction test through the Galaxy lineup performed by MrWhosetheboss performed better than the newer Gorilla glass used on Samsung Galaxy S10. So Fairfone 4 display may be superior despite being older, it depends on many factors including the design of the case that is holding the display glass.
As for Fairphone 4, for his price, I bought at about the same time when this video was released new Samsung Galaxy S10 5G from eBay (350 pounds with delivery) with a more powerful top-of-the-line (at the time) processor, twice as big storage space, bigger battery, and better build water-resistant body that still keeps headphone jack allowing for FM radio (US version with Qualcomm chip supporting FM receive through headphone cable).
Thus Fairfone may be a decent value compared to new mid-range offerings from the Google Pixel lineup, but it still will be beaten by older flagships still on offer in most respects, thus I think that to lure more customers, the manufacturer should concentrate either on privacy (removing the battery is the only way for smartphone stop tracking you when hacked as happened to a journalist Jamal in Istanbul, so Faiphone has a bit of advantage for journalists/activists already) by giving dual convenient/secure OS (Android/Linux) option or on the lower price range of around 300 dollars where upgradability have more sense as people often spent extra money not because they need additional power but because they want futureproof smartphone specs to last longer. Because many people buying flagships tend to keep them 5 years anyway after which tech changes so much that upgradability may not be even viable, the issue with e-waste is more in terms of creating good infrastructure for recycling smartphones for valuable materials and removal of toxic stuff than lack of upgradability for something that changed rather significantly in last decade compared to laptops which have pretty much the same form factor in case of desktop replacement workstations…

In some countries there is in PET bottled products included the price for recycling and people returning these bottles to a bottling machine get their money back in form of supermarket vouchers, thus customers have an interest in returning bottles, and shops have an interest in putting these machines into their shops. Because of this, customers are well motivated to recycle, homeless people take on the role of garbage cleaners and the environment is cleaner as a consequence for no extra cost for the consumers if they keep returning bottles. So, if a similar system would be created for electronics, you can solve the e-waste issue in a heartbeat.

  5. It's Framework for phones! I want it. Honestly Inwould probably actually buy it if I was going to spend that much on a phone, but I'm used to daily driving a Walmart special Galaxy a12, and just using my desktop if I want a good computing experience, so it's a lot pricy for me.

  6. I'll be in the market for a new phone this spring. I hope they bring it to the US! They will get my business if they do

  7. Google hardware sucks these days. After dealing with the Pixel 4A 5G randomly not taking a charge 6 months after purchase and my Gen 1 Pixel buds only playing music while inside the charging case after the latest update I'm never buying any hardware from Google again. My F***ING PIXEL BUDS DISCONNECT WHEN YOU PULL EITHER OF THEM OUT OF THE F***ING CASE. There are a lot of people with the exact same problem and Google doesn't give a sh*t.

  8. Next time I'm in a position to buy a new phone I'm definitely going to get one of these

    Removable battery alone is awesome

  9. you canot have cheap replacement part. the screen alone is 80 euro that not cheap

  10. dont buy any shit(fair)phone the fp4 is pure expansive shit… i onwn one it have a shit small battery and ran out after 7h ..; it have a shit camera that dont take picture in low light rated 48mp and u acces only 16mp, and the phone have shit antenna… the phone have shit pastic edge , the phone have shit screen 5 mm black edge no pixel … (like replacement screeen for cheap on amazone that i got for tha A51) green is shit scam… this is a shit phone totaly…)

  11. I do wonder though if a phone like this would easily break apart if dropped. Because, remember back when batteries were detachable how easily it is to pop off if you drop your phone.

why can't this be available in the US?

  12. this is what my parents will buy me
if i failed school or killed someone

  13. Great concept!
Now, it needs better software and better battery run time.

For example, my recent SailfishOS experience with Sony Xperia 10+ was a disaster because of bad support of calendar, Facebook, etc.; but also because of bad battery time. Also, hardware issues of Sony phones themselves (yes, phones from a big vendor can have crappy hardware issues, like screen or sensor disconnecting because of device bending).
In comparison, my first experience with Jolla I phone was great – everything worked like charm; sometimes even better – I could play Youtube videos in background without paying for a subscription 😀

  14. I love how linus is way more nice and calm about some of the features, unlike how other reviewers can tend to hate on it for not being as good at the absolute top of the line smartphones

  15. Went through a bunch of hoops to get one. Definitely the type of product and company that is worth the extra effort to support in my opinion.

  16. I remember Sony Ericsson made an Eco phone, forget the name of it. But it’s the only one I’ve known to exist.

I think as time passes, the big companies will follow this line. I noticed Apple made a focus of they’re recycled/recyclable materials for their new 14 range.

  17. I had several batteries for my LG V30 back in the day. Wasn't as waterproof as most phones today but it was super convenient.

  18. I just wandered across this after watching a video of Foxconn employees rioting because they didnt recieve their pay which was already too low. Makes this look a lot more appealing.

  19. Just ordered 1
Quite funny i really dislike Apple products so this title waa spot in for me

  20. The lack of wireless charging hurts the phone a bit, but it is surprisingly affordable for what it is. You'd expect it to be at least a few hundred euro more for those specs.

  21. They need a half price version of the fairphone. It's still cheaper to buy 3 middle class xiaomi than one long living fairphone.

  22. That looks like an awesome phone! However, the waterproofness or lack thereof is kind of a big deal for me… 🙁

  23. 13:11 "BOOB SWEAT"

  24. So cool!

  25. Too bad you can't root it. 🙁 It's the dealbreaker for me.

  26. I want to call it the frameworks phone

  27. When my S10e needs to be replaced (most likely in 2+ years) i will defenetly consitter the latest gen. fairphone..

  28. The company values alone are enough for me, but the practicality and usability of the products make this a no-brainer.

  29. I really wish these were available in America :/
